Today is Kagami Biraki (Opening the Mirror) Day! In Japan, it’s tradition to break the mochi on January 11th to symbolize opening up the year to harmony and good fortune. Join our culinary director, Jane Matsumoto, for a virtual kagami biraki, followed by an easy recipe to cook up the mochi pieces into a delicious snack! Check out the video at http://www.jaccc.org/oshogatsu-delights.
In this second installment of our special ikebana series, we feature modern, creative ikebana designs shared by artists from the prominent @ikebana.Ohara School using materials available during their pandemic "safer-at-home" experience. As you explore these arrangements, we hope you may find reprieve and a space for your thoughts to exist and thrive. View the full exhibit at http://jaccc.org/ohara. Ikebana is the Japanese art of floral arrangement that aims to bring out the inner qualities of the materials and express balance, harmony, and form. At the core of the practice is building relationships between oneself and the materials, between student and teacher, and between artists and the world.
