FROM LARRY’S DESK As stated before, Di-No Computers is open for business for sales and service during this difficult time. Our procedures have changed a bit to adhere to required COVID-19 safety measures. At the end of January, we did notice a bit of a slowdown in product deliveries when the factories building Apple products closed for the Chinese NewYear. After the spread of the Corona virus throughout China, product deliveries were definitely affected.... The good news is that Apple products are now flowing into the marketplace at a pretty good pace. We have been able to fulfill many of our backorders and have inventory in stock for immediate delivery. Our local distributors are also ramping up for larger quantities of inventory. We also haven’t forgot the need to have plenty of Chargers, adapters, cables, etc. to keep your computers up and going. Remember, Di-No is always here for you to meet all of your technology needs. Again, if you need us to come to your home or business for sales or service transactions, we will gladly fulfill your needs.

Dear Customers, As a result of the latest information and restrictions implemented by State and local officials, we have decided to make the following changes to our business model. Starting Saturday 03/21/20 we will no longer be open on Saturdays for sales and service. We should be back to our original schedule in approximately 30 days.... Due to the restrictions for larger gatherings and the requirements of social distancing, we will be checking repairs in and checking them out at our rear door entrance, instead of our normal practice of letting customers into our showroom. We will also be offering curbside pickup and delivery. If needed, we can come to your home or business for pickup and drop off. In addition, we can also provide remote support options. We're always here for you. In an attempt to make the process more efficient, you can call in ahead of time and provide us with your information or to schedule an appointment. In addition you can go online at Apple.com/support to schedule an appointment. We care very much for the health and wellbeing of our customers and our employees, and do apologize for any inconvenience these actions may cause you. Please continue to check out website for all of the latest updates. If you have any questions please contact us at 626-795-6674.

FROM LARRY’S DESK Happy Thanksgiving! All of us at Di-No Computers have a lot to be thankful for this year. Our loyal customer base continues to spread the word about their positive experiences with our sales and service offerings. Because of their recommendations, our clientele continues to grow. In addition, our local Apple Retail Stores continue to send us customers every day for support and repairs on computers that they no... longer support. As an employer I feel extremely fortunate to have such a loyal, knowledgeable, and professional staff. Most of my employees have been with Di-No for over fifteen years and some over twenty years. That employee loyalty is pretty much unheard of in this industry. Again, thank you for your support over these many years. We are here to offer you the very best experience possible.

Di-No's Tech Note Help! Apple support just called me and said I have a virus on my computer. This will NEVER happen !!!!... You will also not get a call from Microsoft, Adobe, FileMaker, or any of the multitude of made up companies trying to convince you that they need you to give them passwords so they can repair your computer online. These are SCAMMERS trying to get money from you or information on personal accounts. The SCAMMERS are getting more and more aggressive and cunning. There is a new adware out there called Crossrider variant that starts out with a pop up convincing you that you need to upgrade your Adobe Flash Player. Nothing new really except when you click on the installer this one really hides in places that isn’t easily spotted. In the case of this Crossrider variant, the configuration profile that is installed forces both Safari and Chrome to always open to a page on chumsearch[dot]com. This also prevents the user from changing that behavior in the browser’s settings. The only way to fix the problem is to sift through the System Preferences and remove it. This takes much more time and effort to solve. As always we are here to help if you end up getting malware or adware.

FROM LARRY’S DESK My computer is running slow. I think I need more RAM.We often get customers in that are concerned about their computer running slow. In some cases they have talked to someone who has advised them that they need more RAM, (often referred to as memory). In some cases adding more RAM might improve the performance of your computer, but more often than not, it is usually some other issue that is causing the problem. The first thing we do is do a diagnostic... on the computer to see if there is a hardware or software problem with the computer. The diagnostic might reveal that the computer has malware, or the computer is reaching its storage capacity, or the operating system has become corrupted and needs the be reinstalled. If there are no problems found with your computer then a decision needs to be made as to what the best solution will be to get more performance. In general RAM doesn’t add speed but rather allows you to do more tasks like opening up multiple applications at once. We are finding a better solution for actual speed increase is to add a solid state drive, (SSD). Instead of having spinning mechanical parts, the SSD retains your data in flash memory which is much faster. As usual we are always here to offer advice and solutions for your computer needs. Di-No’s Monthly Tech Note Why isn’t my iPhone charging? We get customers in daily saying their iPhone isn’t charging. This is different than an iPhone battery that won’t hold a charge. ... There are several things that we look at when the iPhone isn’t charging. The most obvious is to look at the cable and make sure it isn’t frayed or a non Apple cable. We use our charging cable to see if it charges their iPhone. We also test their power adapter. We see a lot of non Apple power adapters that just break down and fail. If everything is good with the cable and power adapter, we take a small flashlight and look into the charging port. We quite often find lint or dust build up in the port that keeps the charging cable from making a good connection so it wont charge properly. If you do see lint in the charging port, you can VERY GENTLY take a toothpick and pull out the lint. You have to be very careful because there are small connectors in there that can be damaged. We are here to help with your iPhone issues.

FROM LARRY’S DESK Sometimes simple solutions work best. Sometimes you will be working on your computer and you can’t open up files, get a spinning beachball, or your Web page won’t load or complete a purchase. This can be a real nuisance but doesn’t necessarily mean that you have a serious problem with your computer.... In many cases you can follow a few simple steps to solve your problem. First check and see how many applications you have open and quit the ones you are not using. Remember, clicking the red button on the upper left of the application does not quit the application, it just closes the window. We have customers that come in wondering why the are having problems and find that they have ten or twelve application open. Also, make sure you are saving whatever you are working on as you go along in case it freezes and you have to do a force quit. Sometimes you have no other option but to do a force quit and re-open the application to solve your problem. If you don’t already know you do a force quite by hitting the command-option-esc keys at the same time. Finally, just quitting all the applications and re-starting the computer solves your problem. Try those simple steps first and see how it works out. If you are still having problems you may have a hardware issue and we are always here to help.

Find Your Way around Airports and Malls with the Maps App When you’re in a huge mall or airport, it’s all too easy to take a wrong turn and get lost. Happily, your iPhone will increasingly be able to help prevent that. Maps in iOS 11 now knows about some indoor places, such as the Philadelphia International Airport and the Westfield San Francisco Centre mall. Zoom in to such a place in Maps, and it shows you a detailed floor plan. In an airport, you can view terminals, boarding gates, security checkpoints, baggage claim carousels, parking garages, and restaurants. For malls, Maps lets you filter the view by store type or to show restroom locations. Notice the icon that lets you switch floors! Apple is adding more airports and malls all the time.
