Conversations around mental health can be difficult. During my struggles I’ve felt alone, and vulnerable. My natural state is one of happiness, so whenever I feel that slipping, my anxieties flare up as well. I still tend to isolate when I’m struggling, shine on my friends and family because I don’t want them to worry. Get lost in my work, and over schedule myself because maybe I’ll outrun the feelings. Maybe I’ll be so distracted, I won’t notice how much I’m hurting. ...I’m well aware it’s not the healthiest, or even the best move- but I own my mental health isn’t always the easiest to navigate. I’ve also learned to talk to my therapist, so I don’t feel like I’m burdening the ones I love. Once I have the tools, I tell them how I’m feeling. The more I’m struggling, the more I try to seek out nature- the peace and quiet, the beauty. I meditate- using tools like @insighttimer for their sound baths. I write in my blog- yes, circa 10+ years ago, but it helps. I write lists on my mirrors of things that made me smile, and go back to them to remember I have good things mixed in with the rest. I have a weighted blanket, and love laying under that while watching a movie I haven’t seen in ages, or listen to audiobooks. I remember there are things tethering me here. I’m not the only anxious person walking this earth, nor the only one who gets depressed. I’m sharing this because it’s #worldmentalhealthday and I’m not alone.
