Memorial Day is a time of remembrance for those who lost their lives while serving in the US military. Many memorials and monuments in national parks allow refl...ection on military service and sacrifice throughout our nation's history. Join a virtual tribute from parks on May 25 beginning at 8 a.m. ET. The day-long event will feature a series of livestreams, demonstrations, and historic talks about the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War and beyond, as well as park rangers from Maryland to Montana reciting the Gettysburg Address. Learn more at https://www.facebook.com/events/2624639374520049/ If visiting a park, remember to check park websites for changes in operations before departing, as well as following the latest safety guidance for visiting parks and recreating responsibly. Help avoid being the victim of a crime of opportunity! In addition to locking your vehicle, please remember to keep all items of any value whatsoever out of sig...ht (and inside the house). If an item has value to you, it has value to a thief. Unfortunately, thieves will forever be present in our society. While the PD will always do our best to keep Clayton as safe and secure as possible, our beautiful City is in no way immune to crooks who will take full advantage of an opportunity to steal whatever they can. Even loose change and paperwork visible from outside your vehicle is enough for a crook to shatter your window, grab what was of interest to them, and leave in just a few seconds. In addition to obvious items such as wallets and purses, commonly overlooked items include garage remotes (the type that are not built into the vehicle), keys, paperwork/mail (commonly have personally identifying info used to steal your identity), loose change, bags/backpacks, sunglasses, employment ID cards/lanyards, FasTrak transponders, tools of any type, and the list goes on. Also, putting a blanket on top of something in your vehicle will only peak the interest of a thief even more. Be vigilant! Put yourself in the mindset of a thief and take a few minutes to look in your vehicle(s) and help minimize the chance of a thief having the upper hand. As always, call us to report suspicious activity as soon as you see it. No waiting is necessary. Shared info is excellent info. Let's work as a team and not give criminals the chance to commit their evil acts in our wonderful City! Be kind, be safe, and be vigilant!
