Sermonize sunbathing in his sand paddock, enjoying his time off
Here is a Sermonize update for everyone He has been with us for 5 weeks now and is looking better and is so much more relaxed and happy. His epm results came back negative so our vet has recommended to give him some much needed rest, keep him on his vitamin E supplement, and then to have him reevaluated after a short term (2 month) steroid and anti-inflammatory treatment in the hopes that he had some kind of recent trauma that caused his neurological symptoms. We are think...ing there is a possibility that he was training for match racing after his racing career because, although he was thin, he was VERY fit when he arrived here and we know he was only tried as a pony horse for a very short time. It is possible that he could have had some type of trauma during this time so we are hoping this will help him. If anyone would like to contribute to our ongoing costs so that we can continue to help horses like Maria, Zelda, Sermonize, and Tiger our PayPal is https://www.paypal.me/diablohorsehaven or you can go to our website www.diablohorsehaven.com and click to sign up for a monthly donation. Committing to a monthly donation to help support the horses in our care is a huge help in allowing us to provide these horses with everything they need during their rehab and recovery.
Due to the smoky CA air we haven't been able to start to working Maria yet even though we got the ok from our vet, so in the mean time here is a video of her grazing with the peacocks
It's farrier day again! This time it's Maria's turn She was such a good girl that she was practically falling asleep the whole time If anyone would like to contribute to the farrier bill for our three rescues here at Diablo Horse Haven ($350, we only need to raise $325 towards this bill thanks to a $25 donation from last week ) or the vet bill from last week ($390) our PayPal is https://www.paypal.me/diablohorsehaven You can also go to our website www.diablohorsehaven.com and sign up for monthly donations. Committing to a monthly donation to help support Sermonize, Maria, or Zelda with their ongoing cost of care during their time here with us is a huge help in providing these horses with everything they need during their rehab and recovery.
Sermonize out on the grass for the first time
*Update* The Elevate has been ordered and is on the way thanks to Chloe!! We still need to raise $390 towards their vet bill. Would anyone be willing to help Sermonize out by sending him some elevate? Our vet was out yesterday and unfortunately she has some concerns that this sweet guy may have a neurological issue. He is being tested for epm, but vitamin E will help him regardless of the result so we would like to get him started on it asap. Maria was also evaluated yes...terday to see if she can start work to be restarted under saddle. She looks good other than some slight hind end stiffness which we will need to watch as she is put in more work, but nothing too concerning for a 13yr old ottb. She will have to wait to start working until the farrier comes on Wednesday though. Maria likes to play hard out in pasture and has managed to pull her shoes off If anyone would like to contribute to the vet bill from yesterday ($390) or ongoing cost of care for Sermonize during his rehab our PayPal is https://www.paypal.me/diablohorsehaven or you can contact us and we can tell you how you can pay our vet directly. You can also go to our website www.diablohorsehaven.com and sign up for monthly donations if you would like to help support Sermonize throughout his rehab and recovery or to help with Maria's costs while she is here with us being restarted and evaluated under saddle so that we can ensure that she is setup for success and able to find the best match and forever home when she is ready to be adopted. Sermonize is in love with Eva
Today was farrier day for Zelda and Sermonize. Zelda had her second trim since she's been here. Her feet are getting so much better and she was much more comfortable while getting her back feet done. Sermonize had his feet done as well. He needed a full set of shoes this time. His hind feet were so worn down there was hardly even anything left to nail shoes into. He is the sweetest guy and was such a good boy, our farrier couldn't help but fall in love with him Here is a l...ink to the post from the day Zelda arrived for anyone new to the page: https://www.facebook.com/115092850197237/posts/148610216845500/ Please be sure to look in the comments of that post to see videos of her walking. We'll add a video in the comments here so everyone can see how she's walking now. If anyone would like to contribute to their rehab and care while here with us at Diablo Horse Haven it would be very much appreciated. Our PayPal is https://www.paypal.me/diablohorsehaven Zelda's trim was $50 and Sermonize's shoes were $175. If you are not able to donate you can help by sharing our posts and inviting your friends to like our page. Thank you so much to those of you who have donated in the past. These horses would not be here today without your help See more
