#Repost @nytimes A Danish children’s TV show has this message: Normal bodies look like this. I’m not used to seeing volunteers butt naked and asking them questions, said one child who appeared on the award-winning show, Ultra Strips Down. But we learned about the body and about how other people feel about their bodies.... The show presents 5 naked adults with less-than-perfect bodies to an audience of 11-, 12- and 13-year-olds, who get to ask the models questions. The goal, its producers say, is to combat body shaming and promote body positivity. 90 percent of the bodies you see on social media are perfect, but that is not how 90 percent of the world looks, said the show’s host, @jannikschow. We have extra fat, or hair, or pimples. We want to show children from an early age that this is fine. At one recording, children from a school in Copenhagen asked questions like: At what age did you grow hair on the lower part of your body? Do you consider removing your tattoos? Are you pleased with your private parts? The program, which is shown on Ultra, the on-demand children’s channel of the national broadcaster, DR, is now in its 2nd season. And while perhaps a shock to non-Danes, it is highly popular in Denmark. Recently, however, a leading member of the right-wing Danish People’s Party, Peter Skaarup, said he found Ultra Strips Down to be depraving our children. Tap the link in our bio to read more. #Repost @bodyimage_therapist Idealising thinness, elevatingthe idea (fantasy) of it beyond what's realistic, can keep you from meeting yourself where you're at and going for life in the body you're in. It's not to say that benefiting socially from a smaller body in these areas doesn't exist - thin privilege absolutely exists and our culture needs to evolve (see my highlight). If you've idealised thinness (and who hasn't), it means you give unrealistic, inflated importanc...e to this body size, and see it as absolutely essential to areas like health, mental health, relationships, sexuality, joy, pleasure, fun and even existing. Needing thinness to be a requirement in these areas is a super tough job to give yourself - and it puts you in a tiny, status quo sized box. Yes - culture keeps us in a tiny box and it can seem impossible to push these boundaries (oppression) AND if you have a bit of energy to move, start pushing on those boundaries without culture giving you permission first. . . #bodyimage #bodyacceptance #mentalhealth #psychology #healthateverysize #edrecovery #arttherapy #haes #intuitiveeating #dietculture #bodypositivity #therapy #feminism #beautystandards

#Repost @bandier Taking time to rest or pause is a necessity. It’s not indulgent or lazy. We need to do it to survive. Unfortunately it is often a privilege to pause because we have conditioned to believe productivity is most important and that productivity is synonymous with overworking and often exhaustion is our proof of worth. It’s not healthy. Take some space

Amen to this. We are not all supposed to look the same. Striving for thinness and a cultural standard of beauty is an idea that came from a system that benefits off of us feeling inadequate. Fuck that. #Repost @i_weigh with @make_repost Facts a reminder from community member and artist @daylightillustrations that what we eat & how active we are is still only a part of our body but NOT the full picture. #Repost @kristinabruce_coach with @get_repost I put health in quotations because - what is health? There isn’t one standard definition of it. Sure, different organizations try to define it, but no one can agree on one standard definition. When we really look at it, can anyone truly define health? When we think we can, we can become arrogant, because we are saying I know what is healthy for YOU? Really? How can we know? ... That brings me to what a healthy appearance is. We are taught that health has a look. It’s always someone who is lean and/or has muscles, and if someone is fat - automatically they are unhealthy. Really? But how do we know? Short answer - we don’t. Many people who are thin are unhealthy, and many people who are fat are healthy. It’s a huge misconception that health has a look. Back to the health in quotations bit again. What I am coming to see is that health is subjective, it’s fluid, and ever-changing, and I can’t truly define someone’s health status - it’s actually none of my business. Only we get to define what is healthy for us, and even with that said - no one is required to be healthy or pursue it in order to be seen as a human being worthy of dignity and respect.
