Developing Dogs Ca 03.02.2021

Buddy had his go home session today and his mom was so happy with all of his new skills. I think her favorite part was being able to send him to his crate without a fight. Before Buddy arrived, she would have to drag him to his crate and he would throw a tantrum when she tried to get him in. We worked on that a lot while he was here and it paid off #pittylove

Buddy the #pittypup is a really nervous boy. He’s been really anxious about the other dogs since he arrived so it was nice to see him be able to relax around Sophie today. We have lot’s of work to do with this boy and we’re starting that by building a trusting relationship with him so he feels safe around here #pittylove #dogtraining

We’ve got little miss Athena here from Bakersfield Boxers & Bullies Rescue. We’ve been working on slowing this girl down. Her over excitement has gotten her into some trouble with other dogs

We’ve got Dodger, our high anxiety boy doing some treadmill work today, while Hunter the lab learns how to relax around toys and food. Luther just likes to monitor everything . Good job boys

Had so much fun working with this crew today! Their owner wanted some advice on how to handle their over excitement around people and teaching them not to rush in and out of doorways. We started with them in the crate, which is the first place I start working with dogs when they come to stay with me. I love using the crate because it’s a controlled environment and you can start threshold work by making them wait inside and using the door for spacial pressure. They did great and were pretty much wiped out after their first exercise . Their mom and dad have lots of work to do, but I know they can handle it because they are super dedicated to these adorabull #pitties

Sweet Red was wiped out after our training session today. It was so good to see him again. Red stayed with me a few months back and was adopted by an amazing woman who has been very dedicated to his training. She recently started struggling with him on the walk, so she immediately called me and we got him back on track. I’m so thankful for his owner who has been dedicated to making this adoption work!#pittylove

Camilla got here yesterday and we started the day working on her loose leash walking with the remote collar. Camilla is deaf so we will be using the collar, along with hand signals, to give her direction. I was really impressed with how quickly she caught on and how in tune she was to John. Good job Camilla

Red has been here about a week now and his confidence has improved significantly. Today we took a trip to the park and he conquered the playground, including the slide, which was huge for him! I’m super proud of this boy #dogtraining #confidencebuilding

Bruno went home yesterday and his owner was really impressed with how far he’s come over the past few weeks. Bruno really struggled with his impulse control when he arrived. He wanted to be involved in everything, so we worked hard to teach him how to sit back and relax. The video below was taken on his last day here. Due to social distancing, Isobel and I were the only distraction, but I was still proud of him for staying put! Good job big guy

Our new trainee Charlie Brown arrived yesterday and I absolutely love this boy. He’s with H.A.L.T. Dog Rescue (Helping Animals Live Tomorrow) and recently lost his girlfriend to cancer. It’s ok Charlie, I’m sure Isobel will convince you to be her BF soon. In the meantime we will be working with this guy on his basics and teaching him how to relax. Charlie has a hard time slowing his mind down so today we worked on getting him to stay on the bed. It took quite awhile to get him to stay and he never laid down, but it’s improvement and that’s all I’m asking for. Stay tuned as we work with Charlie on his training and love life
