The surest sign of Spring after asparagus comes into season is the appearance of rhubarb! My produce supplier Earl’s Organics says it’s going to be a good year. On Friday and Saturday we are offering pies and strawberry/rhubarb galettes. Today we have Rhubarb Squares: housemade vanilla flavored jam encased in a buttery cookie dough! Enjoy!
Have you tried our new and improved Cheddar Cheese and Scallion scones? Same recipe as before only repurposed and cut into a new shape. Square scones are hot right now!
Happy Rosh Hashanah!
These are old photos, but one of the best days of my year is driving down the peninsula to pick up my supply of Royal Blenheim apricots from my friend Patti Knoblich Gonzales of Apricot King Orchards. She and her husband Gary are the hardest working people I know and they grow amazing fruit. Now featuring fresh apricot pies at the bakery every weekend. Get them fast, they are very perishable.

Coconut macaroons for Passover. Thanks for supporting us while we are open!
Our Argentinian Beef Empanadas. Seasoned meat with onions and raisins, garnished with hard boiled egg and green olives. A taste of South America!
We’re open and baking goodness, c’mon by!
Our friend Gonzalo with the first strawberries of the season! The Castro farmer’s market kicked off last night and our favorite farmers were there. Berrylicious from Gilroy California are the best. Look for fruit tartlets soon!
Our famous hot cross buns are here for the season of Lent. Always a popular item, we will be offering them every day until Easter Sunday. We buy cases of organic naval oranges and candy the rind in-house. Most commercial candied rind is inferior tasting and loaded with preservatives, which is why so many people hate fruitcake. Then we take the juice from the oranges to plump up generous portions of raisins which are all blended into a soft rich yeasted roll. Finished off with the traditional cross of a lemony icing, you have a special slightly sweet treat. Available mid morning. These are definitely a specialty item. Please call in advance for orders greater than a half dozen
Brown bread for Saint Patrick’s Day. Whole wheat flour, buttermilk, molasses and a bottle of Guinness! We also include some toasted pumpkin sunflower and flax seeds. And remarkably no added fat! It’s one of those curious recipes that you think is going to dry and a little coarse, but it’s loaded with flavor. And because of its lean nature, don’t feel at all guilty about a smear of good salted butter! God bless the Irish. Sometimes the simplest food is the best. Mini loaves are available now. Erin go bragh!
