INTRODUCING OUR FLOWER OF THE MONTH...... Sweet Pea A very delicate and small flower, very fragile but also very beautiful. Want to try decorating your home with a few stems? Call us, we've got you covered!!... "The language of flowers associates the following meanings with with sweet peas: blissful pleasure, delicate pleasure, good-bye, departure, adieu and thank you for a lovely time. Sweet peas derive their name from the Greek word lathyros for pea or pulse, and the Latin word odoratus meaning fragrant. Sweet peas are the flowers most closely connected to the month of April. The name sweet pea is believed to have first been used by the poet Keats (1795-1821). Sweet peas were very popular in the late 1800s and are often considered the floral emblem for Edwardian England. Sweet peas were an important part of floral arrangements for every wedding and dinner party at that time. Dried petals of sweet peas was also one of the most important ingredients for potpourris." Also, did you know that the sweet peas we see in this day and age are very different from the first sweet pea discovered in 17th century Italy? Anyone a big fan of this flower? "Several of the Western meanings of anemone flowers pertain to the Greek Mythology of the origin of the anemone flower featuring Adonis and Aphrodite. Aphrodite kept Adonis as a lover, and in their jealousy, the other Greek gods murdered Adonis. After his death, Aphrodite wept over his grave in mourning, and her tears for her fallen love grew into Anemone flowers. This origin story lends itself to the Classical dual meanings of the arrival of spring breezes and the death of a loved one. In the Victorian language of flowers, the anemone represented a forsaken love of any kind, while European peasants carried them to ward off pests and disease as well as bad luck."
Villainous, with a hint of innocence... Those anemones are killer. Don't you think? @designerschoicefloral_ #turlock #turlockflowershops #bringingthateuropeantothe209

The flower of the month... One of our favorites, Narcissus/ Daffodils! Here is some knowledge on our favorite flower <3 Greek culture: The narcissus appears in two Graeco-Roman myths, that of the youth Narcissus who was turned into the flower of that name, and of the Goddess Persephone snatched into the Underworld by the god Hades while picking the flowers. The narcissus is considered sacred to both Hades and Persephone,[203] and to grow along the banks of the river Styx in ...the underworld.[197] The Greek poet Stasinos mentioned them in the Cypria amongst the flowers of Cyprus.[204] The legend of Persephone comes to us mainly in the seventh century BC Homeric Hymn To Demeter,[205] where the author describes the narcissus, and its role as a lure to trap the young Persephone. The flower, she recounts to her mother was the last flower she reached for before being seized.
