GREAT NEWS FOR OUR NOBLE PROFESSION!! Groundbreaking ADA Study Shows Heightened Infection Control, Safety Measures Working. Today the American Dental Association announced a first-of-its-kind study published in The Journal of the American Dental Association on COVID-19 infection rates among dentists. From the ADA Science and Research Institute and ADA Health Policy Institute, this is the first large-scale report to examine U.S. dentists' infection rates related to COVID-19. T...he study shows that what our member dentists are doingheightened and increased attention to patient and dental team safetyis working. The ADA will continue to collect data on infection rates and have also added dental hygienists to the survey in collaboration with the American Dental Hygienists Association. This is a huge revelation and first study of its kind for statistics on dentists and COVID contraction, says ISDS President Dr. Alice Boghosian. It clearly demonstrates how dentistry's protective measures have kept dentists much safer from contracting COVID as compared to other healthcare professions and reinforces to our patients that they are safe going to the dental office for treatment. According to the study, fewer than one percent of dentists in the U.S. were found to be COVID-19 positive. This is very good news for dentists and patients. This means that dentists implementing heightened infection control and paying increased attention to patient and dental team safety is working. Dentists were assumed to be at high risk for contracting COVID-19 because of their proximity with patients and aerosol-generating procedures. And yet, the data shows an extremely low infection rate. The extremely low infection rate supports the effectiveness of the recommendations from the ADA and CDC in helping to keep the dental team and their patients as safe as possible. The bottom line is, the dental profession has taken this issue extremely seriously, and it shows. In light of the revelations from the ADA study, there is no better time than now to encourage patients to schedule a visit, adds Dr. Boghosian. Resuming regular dental visits is important because treatment, as well as prevention of cavities and other issues, helps keep people healthy. See more

Back in Dental School, almost 40 years ago, in a similar situation, I asked my instructor if I could place a white filling in the cavity instead of the traditional silver. He said, "Nope. Can't put white fillings on molars. It'll never work!" My my, how far we've come!
So proud to welcome our awesome new assistant Ofelia to our growing team!
