Each day during this Thanksgiving week, the children made something different for our snack.

"There must also be a certain number of fragile objects, glasses, plates, vases, and so forth. Now certainly adults will exclaim, 'How come? Put glasses in the ...hand of three- and four-year-old children! They will surely break them!' By this comment they place more importance on the glass than on the child; an object worth a few cents seems more precious than the physical training of their children." Shaving cream with drops of red and yellow food coloring. The exciting part is when we squeegee the shaving cream off. It’s impossible to imagine such beautiful art through the thick shaving cream. But we squeegee it off, and there it is!!

Fall Suncatchers. Last week we tried to attach these silk leaves to our blue poster board. It didn’t work. It didn’t matter how much glue from our glue sponges we used, they just wouldn’t stick. We moved to using our oil pastels with the blue poster board. But I knew right then what I was going to do with these silk leaves this week. We put a long piece of Steve’s thick packing tape on the table, sticky side up. The kids put the sequins and silk leaves on it, and then I sea...led it by putting another piece of tape on top of it. I looped a brown pipe cleaner at one end as a hanger. When I took the suncatcher off the table and held it up to the sun, the kids, everyone of them, would ohh and aww and say how pretty it was. For these pics, I put them on my light table.

{{ Warning: video is full of squeals! Adjust your volume }} Film canisters + Alka-Seltzer + water = anticipation and thrills. We did this at Summer Camp and Sophia just brought it in for a physical science presentation for her science & math child development class. She did it with the kids today.... I’m certain she will receive an A+ because who doesn’t like a good explosion?! (ps Many film canisters are stuck on our roof from Summer Camp and today!)

Today I put down a big piece of chip board (thank you nice guy at Target) and the kids colored on it. Some drew linear scribbles and some loop-the-loop circle scribbles. A few of the older kids drew people and flowers. Scribbling is a wonderful developmental art stage that should be encourage with lots of paper and crayons! It is a complete kinesthetic experience and children can see their power to control and manipulate their environment. It also aids in developing the fine motor skills that are needed for writing. Oh, and it’s fun!
