Sphere Render 1 - Refraction/Reflection Friends, When I began writing, "Entering the Prism", There were two concepts that I built the piece from. Firstly, I wa...nted to represent what happens conceptually when light enters a prism. The refraction that occurs changes the direction, length of the rays and also splits the incoming light into multiple colors. The musical technique was to use traditional instruments in a non-traditional way. Instead of having a single sound, I grouped a large number of instruments together with small variables in their "tonguing" play style. While this group is often used for a single purpose together, I treated their individuality like seperate rays within the prism. The second idea was how light can be reflected through the means of mirrors. I wanted to take the idea of a single sound, split it into multiple ranges (refractions), then reflect the different sounds, allowing them to bounce around within a given space. The idea is almost like a prism that allows light in, not out, then reflectes the light within it's frame. To represent what that would look like visually, I built a 3D sphere with a movable exterior. This represents how I hear and see the music moving around within the frame of reflection and refraction. I hope you enjoy! You can listen to Variations Vol I below: http://smarturl.it/variationsvolI

Jesse Woolston - When it comes to the process behind my writing, I often lean on two contrasting inspirations. The former being technology and the intricacy and precision of programming while the latter being nature, environments, and unrestricted emotion. It's always a balance between a more methodical approach vs purely working without constraints with feeling and emotion. The last track on my new album, Movement is my ode to nature and the latter process of creation. The v...isuals are perfectly captured in the B-takes from "The Revenant" movie which I imagined while writing. I wanted this to close out the album to remind ourselves of the beauty and depth of the environment we dwell in. The unforgiving landscape, the beautiful sunrises and sunsets, the power in scale, and the delicacy of life. http://smarturl.it/ustructure Video Composition Credit: Ricochet Graphics I hope you enjoy it. Thank you, Jesse

Friends, I'm proud to present a clip from the first track of my up and coming album, structure. The piece was built using an array of different time signature...s and delays both in 4/4 and 3/4. Using this technique, The introductory piano evolves and falls in on itself creating new melodies and harmonies. The more time the sound spends within this "structure", the more the pianos become the texture and atmosphere for the next section of the piece. The video was created by Tobias Gremmler. The animation is using feedback data from his environemnet in Hong Kong resulting in interesting connections and abstraction. You can pre-order the album & microscopic photography book here: https://jessewoolston.bandcamp.com/album/structure-2 Thank you for watching & listening, I hope you enjoyed it :)
