Death Valley Road Conditions 15.12.2020

Greetings Roads Fans! We're back! Death Valley National Park is expanding access to areas of the park as part of its phased reopening plans. These plans are based on local, state, and national guidance. Backcountry roads, backcountry camping, and dispersed camping are now open! While the park was closed the roads crew was hard at work grading and repairing roads. Higher elevations bring cooler summer temperatures but all of Death Valley is hot right now. If you plan a backco...untry trip remember to establish an emergency contact, bring supplies to safely spend an extra night out should something go wrong, and check the weather before your trip: https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/vef/rec/index.php?loc=DV The following roads have recently been graded: Racetrack Road, Hidden Valley Road, Hunter Mountain Road from Hidden Valley to the top of Hunter Mountain, Lee Flat Road, Big Pine Death Valley Road, and South Eureka Valley Road. The road from Hunter Mountain to South Pass has large ruts and damage from spring mud conditions so high clearance and 4x4 are needed. Titus Canyon and West Side Road are both open but have rough washboard, washouts, and are in slightly worse shape than usual so high clearance and 4x4 are recommended. For more information on what's open visit and how you can safely visit Death Valley: https://www.nps.gov/deva/planyourvisit/conditions.htm Enjoy and stay safe! Greetings roads fans! A lot has changed here in Death Valley over the last week. The following changes to park operations have been made in accordance with CDC guidelines and recommendations from state and local public health authorities and in consultation with NPS Public Health Service Officers. All NPS services and facilities in Death Valley are currently closed, this includes front and backcountry restrooms and campgrounds. All warm springs in Death Valley are also closed... to entry. The Oasis at Death Valley and Stovepipe Wells Village are both closed, except for gas stations. Panamint Springs Resort remains open. The following popular secondary roads are closed to discourage groups of people from congregating: Salt Creek, Mosaic Canyon, Historic Stovepipe Well, Natural Bridge, Keane Wonder Mine, Artists Drive, and Dantes View Road. Titus Canyon, Harry Wade, West Side Road, and 20 Mule Team Road are closed due to recent flooding. Please visit Death Valley Current Conditions for the most up to date information on closures and road conditions: https://www.nps.gov/deva/planyourvisit/conditions.htm NPS Photo: Sign reads "Campground Closed" on a gate that has been closed across a campground entrance.

Last night brought more rain to Death Valley! Death Valley Rangers have been out surveying and clearing roads all day. The following roads are closed: 20 Mule Team, Devils Golf Course, and Westside Road. Expect some water and debris along Badwater Road, Dantes View Road, North Highway (the open portion of Scotty's Castle Road), and Beatty Cuttoff Road. High clearance and 4x4 are recommended for Upper Wildrose Road to the Charcoal Kilns. Titus Canyon has some washouts but rema...ins open to 4x4 and high clearance vehicles. We still need reports on many other backcountry roads. If are planning a backcountry trip this weekend be prepared to encounter water, snow, ice, or debris on any road. Have a backup plan in case you need to turn around. Let us know what roads you traveled and the conditions you encountered.
