"In the speech, Biden said that his win came as a result of building an inclusive coalition of supporters of which he was proud. 'The broadest and most diverse coalition in history,' he called it. 'Democrats, Republicans, Independents, progressive, moderates, conservatives, young, old, urban, suburban, rural, gay, straight, transgender, white, Latino, Asian, Native American.' The remark is believed to be the first time that the trans community was mentioned in an acceptance s...peech by a president-elect. It takes a step beyond Barack Obama's 2008 speech which was the first time a president-elect mentioned the gay community. Biden went back to that well later saying 'We must make the promise of the country real for everybody no matter their race, their ethnicity, their faith, their identity, or their disability.' Identity is likely a reference to gender identity." See more

EVERY VOTE COUNTS! Now, last night, you may have heard that the president declared himself the victor and said that the election is over. That’s false. The election’s not over until every ballot has been counted. The president also said that the counting of ballots should end. I just want you to know that if there are any efforts to interfere with the full count of all ballots that have been cast, the ACLU is ready to spring into action and will defend your right to vote and... ensure that we have a fair and free election. Every vote counts. Election officials must count every vote. Dale Ho, Director of ACLU Voting Rights Project via @ACLU_Nationwide *** [video: Dale Ho and an ASL interpreter are shown on screen side-by-side. Dale shares the above (see text) while ASL interpreter signs it. Video is also captioned] #EveryVoteCounts #2020Election #Election2020 #ACLU

TODAY! This morning the U.S. Supreme Court heard Fulton v Philadelphia; a case that could provide private agencies that receive public funds a right to discriminate against LGBTQ+, Jewish, Muslim, single women and more. This case is important, which is why we are co-sponsoring a Virtual Town Hall today to break everything down for you. RSVP here: www.OurDayInCourt.org... No matter the result of this election, white supremacy will endure, patriarchy will endure, classism will endure, homophobia will endure, transphobia will endure, and more. Make sure your commitment to ending these systems of oppression also endures. If you don't know what your specific commitment is yet, figure it out, boo. We're in this for the long haul. Feeling worried and stressed about the election? Here’s a self-care tip: Deep breathing is one of the best ways to lower stress in the body. This is because when you breathe deeply, it sends a message to your brain to calm down and relax. The brain then sends this message to your body....
