Desert Christian Knights Football 14.11.2020

By Kyle Bistline 11/02/2019, 5:30pm PDT It is with a somewhat heavy heart that I sit and pen this last Knight’s football article. As a dad of two former Knight football players, I was always sad to see the season end. But to everything there is a season. To add to the heaviness of the evening it was Senior Knight. A time of celebration for sure but as a dad of 4 Desert Christian students and athletes, I remember thinking, This is their last game. However, we serve an a...Continue reading

By Kyle Bistline 10/26/2019, 6:30pm PDT DESPITE LITTLE OR NO RELIEF, KNIGHTS COME TOGETHER TO DEFEAT VIKINGS 64 TO 12 Two games left in the season and the Knights get an opponent that at least on paper it seemed they could beat. The problem was that due to injuries and some losses the Knights were down to 11 players. That is only 3 players that can be substituted in to give the other players some rest. The Knights are no strangers to playing both sides of the ball but as t...Continue reading

DCHS Knights Hold Their Heads High After a Tough Loss By Kyle Bistline 10/19/2019, 2:45pm PDT DCHS KNIGHTS HOLD THEIR HEADS HIGH AFTER A TOUGH LOSS Week seven took the Knights on a three plus hour school bus ride to Moreno Valley High School to play Riverside County Educational Center. Football is a physically and mentally trying team sport. Last week the Knights slew Goliath and this week was tough. With key losses on the team, many young men played both sides of the ball...Continue reading

By: Kyle Bistline Week six of Knight’s football and where does one begin? This game was so much more than even a David and Goliath analogy it is worthy of. The Knights came into game 6 of the season as heavy underdogs. They had been ranked 52nd in the state by MaxPreps and their opponent from Trona was ranked 14th. The odds of winning were even worse as the team lost 3 key players. So, a better analogy might be the battle of Gideon’s army of 300 against an enemy of thous...Continue reading

By Kyle Bistline 10/05/2019, 9:00am PDT KNIGHTS BATTLE WITH THE SAINTS TILL THE VERY END The fifth week of the season took the Knights to Simi Valley to play Hillcrest High School. The Knights knew it was going to battle as they came in ranked 52nd in the state for 8-man football and the Saints were ranked 34th. The Saints started the first quarter off with a run back of a kick off for a touchdown and then converted the 2-point conversion. John Henderson showed both his of...fensive and defensive skills as he threw a 39-yard pass to Evan Olliff for a touchdown and later during the quarter he intercepted a pass for a 58-yard pick 6. The defense was up to the task as Jordan Nave blocked a few passes. At the end of the quarter it was Knights 13 and the Saints 16. The second quarter showcased Tony Reyna’s running skills as he broke several tackles for a 59-yard touchdown. Olliff then turned around and intercepted a pass with a 15-yard gain after the pick. Henderson added a field goal and the Knights led the game by 7 points. Late in the half the Knight’s could not hold off a drive by the Saints and the half ended with the Knights 31 and the Saints 32. Henderson attempted a long field goal at the start of the second half to put the Knights ahead but it fell just short. Also, in the third quarter with the knights facing a 4th down and very long, David Hubbard caught a 17-yard pass for a Knight’s first down. The Saints kept up their offense and at the end of 3 it was Knights 31 and the Saints 46. Danial McMurtry had a stellar 4th quarter as he caught 3 passes for over 100 yards. The defense made an iron curtain stand as they held the Saints to zero yards through four downs with the Knights taking over mid field. Reyna had back to back runs for 32 yards and the Knights were within 10 points. With less than 2 minutes on the clock Henderson dropped back to pass and ended up running 34 yards for the score. With 1:36 left in the game Henderson attempted an onside kick which was nearly recovered by the Knights. The Saints finished the game by taking a knee and the final score was Knights 51 Saints 54. Once again, the Knights stayed in the whole game never giving up even when they were down by 16 points at one time, they came back to within 3 points. The coaches and young men should be proud of their valiant effort. Next week’s game will be home at Antelope Valley College against Trona at 7:00 pm. It will be our homecoming and the them will be Desert Christian Jersey Knight. ONCE A KNIGHT, ALWAYS A KNIGHT
