It's amazing to see how much Aquaponics can benefit the community! This project, located in Anaheim, is led by our mentor - Aaron Flora who hopes to "feed, educate, and provide jobs to under served communities throughout Anaheim!"

Visited another aquaponics farm at Huntington High School, hoping that one day we can have a farm just as plentiful as this one

Today's update!

Diamond Bar High School Aquaponics 15.10.2020

So... as some of you may have noticed, we haven't been posting for the past two months. Very sorry about that. BUT, we have been diligently taking photos of the plants and the fish so that when we eventually do upload all of the photos (i.e. today), we would be able to see the growth of our system. So, no, we did not take all of these pictures all on one day and just change the lighting to make them look different. They were really taken on the date that it has been posted to.... Well, since the last time we posted about our system, quite a lot has changed. We had so many fish... But all of them died, except for the remaining four depicted in today's picture. Unfortunately, the nitrogen levels were FAR too high, and by the time we actual realized that that was what was causing all of these fish deaths, only a few remained. We immediately did a water change to refresh the system. Now, these four survivors are healthy (we think and hope). We feed them daily (except for when we're not in school), of course. The plants have clearly grown a lot. The tomatoes at the back had all died, so we pulled them out. The cauliflowers, however, seem to be growing quite well. But they seem to be bent over - maybe the leaves are growing so big and so well that the stems can't hold up all that weight? Or they just grew up kind of bent over? Well that's the way some of the plants are like now... As for us humans, we participated in the CIE-SoCal STEM Competition and won, amazingly, $300. That $300 will go into expanding and maintaining this aquaponics project. We will ATTEMPT to go back to the daily posting, but no guarantees. We do have things other than the aquaponics system to worry about! =)
