Have you ever looked at the bottom of a wine bottle? The indentation is called a punt. Some bottles have deep punts and others barely have an indent at all. What is a punt for and where did it originate?? Here are 5 reasons wine bottles are thought to have punts: 1. It makes it easier to hold and pour a bottle of wine.... 2. It originated from glassblowers who would push the glass in so it could stand upright and not have a sharp point at the bottom. 3. Punts can help your wine chill faster with a larger glass to wine ratio! 4. Punts can catch sediment and prevent it from mixing back into the wine. 5.
