Dear Oak Grove Community, I hope that this letter finds you and yours safe and healthy as we enter into this season of harvest. The start of this school year ha...s presented us with unimaginable challenges, but I cannot emphasize enough how proud I am of each of you. Your continued efforts ensure our students receive the very best education in the midst of this pandemic. I am also very appreciative of the parents, guardians, grandparents, and other family supports students rely on for help with their studies. This has certainly been a team effort. The Santa Clara County Public Health Department recently revised their Reopening of Santa Clara County K-12 Schools document since our county moved to the Red Tier (Tier 2) on the State’s new COVID-19 Framework. While moving to this less restrictive tier provides flexibility to open schools for in-person instruction, we want to ensure a return to in-person instruction occurs when it is safe for our students and staff. I want to thank the nearly 4,000 parents/guardians who responded to our survey last month regarding Distance Learning and in-person instruction. A clear majority expressed concern for in-person instruction, with 61% of elementary grade families and 62% of intermediate grade families indicating preference to continue with Distance Learning at this time. After careful consideration of survey feedback, consultation with our labor groups, and discussions with health officials, the Oak Grove School District will remain in Distance Learning until January 2021, at the earliest. Although Oak Grove School District will remain in Distance Learning through the end of the first semester, we will continue to review and evaluate safety and sanitation protocols to ensure we are prepared once in-person instruction resumes. We will continue to monitor guidance from the Department of Public Health and we will continue to seek input from parents, guardians, and staff as we make future decisions on this matter.
