Me: "Alexa, what time is it?" Alexa: "The time is 6:15 pm." Me: "Alexa, thank you." Alexa: "You bet!"... These second generation Alexa frames are pretty cool.
Researchers at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine report that several of their patients using UV lamps to clean their homes have developed a serious and painful inflammation of the cornea called photokeratitis.
Today being World Keratoconus Day, I wanted to share my most recent success case. This young grandmother's keratoconus had progressed to the point where her vis...ual acuity for the past ten years was no better than finger counting when she presented to my clinic. She was not able to read or watch TV and because of the severity of her corneal distortion, glasses and regular contacts were of no use for more than a decade. I fit her with special scleral contacts that vault over the entire cornea and create a new optical surface. The first time I placed them on her eyes she exclaimed to her son that she could see and both of them hugged and broke down crying. I cried along with them. This picture shows the poster her family made in anticipation of her receiving her first set of customized lenses to take home. She now sees well enough to be able to get a driver's license. See more
A good guideline - the rule of 20/20/20. "After 20 minutes of screen time, you should look at something, at least 20 feet away for 20 seconds. That lets your eyes kind of rest, get back to neutral..."
Come and get your eyes examined at Davich Optical and then enjoy some al fresco dining L.A. Koreatown style!
It's not every day someone walks into your office and says, "Doctor, remember me? You saved my life!" Slowly, it all came back to me... In January of 2019, Samara presented with severe headaches, double vision, and thought she just needed some new glasses. When it was revealed in her history she had a shunt in her brain for hydrocephalus, one look into her eyes affirmed what I had suspected, papilledema, swelling of the optic nerve disc from elevated intracranial pressure. I immediately sent her to the ER where it turned out her shunt had become disconnected. The pic she showed me yesterday was post emergency surgery. Just really grateful for the different ways I can make a difference in someone's life as an optometrist.
