DAV Ozie Boler Chapter 21 Vallejo, CA 11.11.2020

#flashback 2013!! Was able to S&Q for an entire veterans state convention! The Disabled American Veterans (DAV). The service organization I worked for for 12 years. I was able to cook for veterans I had helped to obtain their VA Benefits, veterans I had trained in service officer certification classes and veterans that have volunteered their time to represent themselves and the state as a voice when lobbying Congress. (Understand that is you are a veteran and are not a li...fe member of this or one of the other 35 veteran service organizations (VSO) you are not lobbying Congress to protect our laws every year like these organizations do, and congress listens to the VSO’s that have over a certain number of members. Look up veteran service organizations and look into becoming a life member of as many as you qualify for! The only way we will keep what we have and hopefully obtain more benefits that help all veterans is by supporting these VSOs by becoming life members and giving them the numbers they need to push Congress in our direction. #sandq #bamtastic #grillspace #veteranshelpveterans

DAV Ozie Boler Chapter 21 Vallejo, CA 18.10.2020

* DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE VA CLAIMS PROCESS? * DO YOU HAVE A CLAIM PENDING OR WANT TO FILE A CLAIM, BUT WANT TO REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR DOING AND ...WHY? * ARE YOU AN ORGANIZATION OR BUSINESS THAT HAS INFORMATION THAT YOU WANT TO PUT OUT TO A MASS OF VETERANS? * DO YOU WANT TO SIMPLY EAT SOME GOOD FOOD? COME OUT TO MY 3RD VETERANS CLAIMS TARGET SEMINAR THIS SUNDAY, EAT, FELLOWSHIP, AND LISTEN AS I TRY MY BEST TO EXPLAIN THE MOST IMPORTANT PARTS OF A VA CLAIM. THIS INFORMATION IS COMING FROM MY 20 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE AS A SERVICE OFFICER, REPRESENTING VETERANS FROM THE START OF THIER CLAIMS ALL THE WAY TO HEARINGS BEFORE THE BOARD OF VETERANS APPEALS. MY GOAL IS TO TEACH YOU HOW TO DEVELOP WHATEVER YOUR TRYING TO PRESENT TO THE VA SO THAT YOU PUT YOUR BEST FOOT FORWARD AND KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOUR DOING...WHY AND WHAT TO EXPECT. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THE MORE YOU UNDERSTAND ABOUT YOUR CLAIM THE BETTER YOU CAN REPRESENT YOURSELF. I ALSO HAVE MADE IT MY MISSION TO EXPLAIN WHY ALL VETERANS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT VETERAN SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS AND WHY WE ALL NEED TO BECOME LIFE MEMBERS OF AS MANY OF THEM AS WE QUALIFY FOR. EVERY FEBRUARY, ALL THE SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS HEAD TO WASHINGTON TO LOBBY CONGRESS FOR VETERANS LAWS. THEIR VOICE IS NOT COMBINED BUT RATHER BASED ON MEMBERSHIP STRENGTH OF EACH INDIVIDUAL ORGANIZATION. THE FEWER MEMBERS THE ORGANIZATIONS HAVE, THE LESS POWER THEY HAVE AT STOPPING LAWS FROM PASSING THAT HURT ALL VETERANS. JOINING A VETERANS SERVICE ORGANIZATION IS MORE THAN COMING TO MEETINGS AND HELPING IN THE COMMUNITYTHAT IS OPTIONAL. YOUR LIFE MEMBERSHIP GIVES THAT ORGANIZATION MORE VOTING AND LOBBYING POWER BEFORE CONGRESS WHICH IS WHAT ALL VETERANS GREATLY NEED. THERE WILL BE TABLES AVAILABLE FOR ANY VETERAN FRIENDLY GROUP TO SET UP AND HAVE A CHANCE TO GET ON STAGE AND TALK ABOUT WHAT THEY CAN DO TO HELP VETERANS, AFTER I HAVE COMPLETED THE SEMINAR. I CALL IT (FIVE MINUTES OF FAME!) DURING THAT TIME, YOU WILL BE ENCOURAGED TO EAT FROM THE FREE S&Q MEATS FOOD BUFFET, WALK AROUND AND GATHER INFORMATION FROM ALL THE VETERAN SUPPORT GROUPS AND BUSINESSES. AND HAVE TIME TO SPEAK WITH ME PERSONALLY OR SET UP A CONTACT TIME AND DATE WHERE I WILL PERSONALLY HELP YOU UNDERSTAND YOU VA ISSUE. YEARS AGO, I HAD A DREAM THAT I WAS COOKING MEAT AND TALKING TO VETERANS ABOUT THEIR CLAIMS AT THE SAME TIME. MY DREAM HAS COME TRUE AND WE ARE HAVING OUR 3RD TARGET SEMINAR! HOPE TO SEE YOU AND HELP YOU THIS SUNDAY! #sandq#bamtastic#veteranshelpveterans#veterans#veteransupport

Out of nearly 3,500 Medal of Honor recipients, only one has been a woman. In honor of Women's History Month, we're recognizing Dr. Mary Walker. When the Civil W...ar broke out, Dr. Walker chose to volunteer for the Union Army. She worked for free at the temporary hospital set up at the U.S. Patent Office in Washington, D.C. She also organized the Women's Relief Organization to help the families of the wounded who came to visit them at local hospitals. In 1863, her medical credentials were finally accepted, so she moved to Tennessee, where she was appointed as a War Department surgeon. Walker was captured in April 1864 by the South and held as a POW for about four months. Not long after being released, Walker returned to her craft as an assigned medical director at a hospital for women prisoners in Kentucky. Walker was awarded the Medal of Honor in 1865, even though she had never been a commissioned officer in military service. That civilian status is why her medal was rescinded in 1917. She refused to return the medal, and wore it until she died two years later. In 1977, President Carter restored the honor in her name, thanks to efforts made by her family. Today, DAV National Commander Stephen Butch Whitehead along with DAV's national leadership team addressed a joint session of the House Committee on Veterans’ ...Affairs and U.S. Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs. Topics discussed included VA's need to stop stonewalling benefits for Blue Water Navy veterans, to act on the list of presumptive Agent Orange-related illnesses, to finally give veteran caregivers the help they need, to recognize the reality of burn pit-related illness, and the epidemic of veteran suicide. DAV thanks the lawmakers who are truly dedicated to helping the men and women who wore the uniform. The time for talk is over. The time for action, is now! #DAVMidWinter
