Today marks the start of Nowruz (Persian New Year), a universal celebration of new beginnings, celebrated for the past 3,000 years and now by 300 million people worldwide. Nowruz translates to ‘New Day’ and celebrates the arrival of spring on the vernal equinox each year. March 21 was officially recognized in 2010 as International Nowruz Day by the United Nations to "promote values of peace and solidarity between generations and within families. It's a time of reconciliation... and neighborliness, "contributing to cultural diversity and friendship among peoples and different communities.
