Danville Police Department 01.12.2020

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of the Danville Police Departments first Chief of Police, Chief Ken Sandy. Ken passed away on Christmas Eve at the age of 82. Ken Sandy worked for the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office for 27 years, from 1965-1992. He was assigned to the Town of Danville as its first Chief of Police after the Town incorporated in 1982. Ken served in that position until his retirement from the Sheriff’s Office in 1992. To date, he has be...en the longest-serving Police Chief for the Town of Danville. Ken remained active in the Town of Danville after retirement, and could often be seen at local service clubs and faith organizations contributing to the community. He served four terms on the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District Board of Directors. Danville’s current Chief of Police, Allan Shields, stated, Ken laid the foundation for the Police Department through his strong leadership and commitment, allowing those who followed to continue to build on a public safety platform that is community-focused and works hard at protecting the lives, rights, and property of the community. Ken leaves behind his wife, Dorothy, daughter Reagan Hall, and stepchildren Ron Maher, Kim Prosser, and Jennifer Maher. Thank you for your service, Ken. You will be missed.
