What I have done to be where I am now... 1. Obtain a bachelor’s degree and and complete prerequisite courses. I Graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Took me 4 years to receive my Undergraduate Degree in Biology with a Concentration in Anatomy and Physiology. 2. Accrue healthcare and patient care experience hours (HCE/ PCE). I started volunteering and shadowing doctors when I was in high school because I knew I wanted to peruse... a career in medicine. I just wasn’t sure exactly what path. In college I continued to volunteer and obtained by phlebotomist license. 3. Apply. To apply, you need to gather official undergraduate transcripts, ask for letters of recommendation, list all HCE/ PCE hours and write a personal statement. I applied for a few schools on the West and East Coast. I knew I wanted to become a PA, so I left all my options open.#physicianassistant #biologystudent 4. Interview. Once you have submitted your application to CASPA, it’s a waiting game and a good time to start preparing for Interviews. I did not take this lightly, I read books, practiced in the mirror and with friends and family.#paschool #paschoollife 5. Study. Once I got acceptance letters/ calls, I decided to attend Western Universities of Health Sciences, a 2 year vigorous Masters program. For me, I wanted to go to a school that offered a Masters Degree as well. I don’t remember doing anything but studying during those 2 years, but I also made sure to hit the gym every morning to clear the mind and increase endorphins to start the day. #pastudent 6. Pass the PANCE. After graduating from an accredited PA program, I had found a job in Boston, MA where my fiancé was attending Medical School. I studied a solid 2 months on my own and Passed!! #pastudy 7. Get a Job! You can work with a job hunter or look on your own. See more
