FROM DAVID APPLEFIELD (NJ4) Dear Friends, As some of you know already, I am running for US Congress in the fourth district of New... Jersey, where I was born and raised. I bring to the task decades of experience and a worldview filled with tried-and-tested ideas that work. My mom arrived in NJ at the age of 11 as a child holocaust survivor. My dad was an All- State New Jersey baseball pitcher from Union, NJ, who amazingly played for the Jersey Colored Tigers in the "Negro Leagues." Social justice, fairness, public service, and the common good have been pillars in my upbringing. And my support for working families, small business owners and entrepreneurs, students who want to innovate, women-owned and minority-owned companies, unionmade goods, a clean and safe environment, and the local economy are at the heart of my wish to serve. I have a list of tested ideas and solutions for improving life in my district, and believe these can be replicated or at least inspire real change in districts across the country. An original plan to create a public Fund to counter-balance the abusive cost of health care and drugs is one of the first tangible tasks I will set out to do. There are a lot others. Mostly I want to help bring back healthy dialogue and exchange, and help restore faith in a system that is stressing us economically, emotionally, and physically. I'd be happy to share in detail these ideas and of course my deepest values, but today I'm simply asking for your support. It is embarrassing how much money a candidate needs to run for public office these days, and I will work for election reform to try to change this.
