Hello Supervisor Zane, Gorin, Rabbitt, Hopkins, and Gore, My name is Quinn Bishop and I am a lifetime resident of Sonoma County. I am a Salon owner and hairstyl...ist serving our community for 15 years. I have passionately pursued my craft, traveling the world teaching other hairstylist how to work with naturally curly hair. In On January 1st I opened my salon after almost a year long process of real estate negotiations, engineering, permitting and construction. I built and trained my team of 5 and opened our doors to the public, it really was my American dream come true. A dream that I invested my life savings into. On March 17 when the County announced SIP, my team and I had already decided earlier that day that we would be closing before the announcement was made. We made that decision based on our values of integrity and for the safety of our guests, team members and Sonoma County residents. You see, there is nothing more important to us than protecting the lives and livelihoods of our community. We were willing to make the hard choice before it was asked of us because we value our fellow Sonoma County residents. We have complied with SIP every step of the way. We now believe it has gone on for far too long. As licensed cosmetologists we receive over 1600 hours in training, well over 50% of of that is in safety, sanitation, and disinfection. We must pass a state regulated 2 part exam both written and practical. This test does not actually assess our ability to cut or color hair. They are directly looking for our ability to safely perform our services, not cross contaminate our spaces and spreed disease, fungus, or viruses. We are taught how to protect ourselves and our guests from viruses such HIV, herpes simplex, hepatitis, and highly infectious bacteria such as staphylococcus. Are these viruses and bacteria that I just mentioned not as deadly as COVID-19? WE are well equipped, trained and willing to protect ourselves and guests against COVID-19. Cosmetologists from all around Sonoma County have come together and are unified in our commitment to abide not only by the standards set out by our licensing agency the State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology but also abide by CAL/OSHA’s new regulation given to us on May 26th. We are willing, prepared and committed. WE feel like our industry is vastly under represented by the board of Supervisors here in Sonoma County. It's a shame. Women are the majority in our industry, we make up 92.7% of licensed cosmetologists in the United Sates. We feel like we are being singled out by you and the elected Supervisors in our County. This is hurting our working women, single mothers and heads of households. We demand better from you and your collegues. Out of the 6 women who work in my salon who are all W4 employees only 2 have received their full unemployment benefits, 1 has received only 3 of the 11 weeks unemployed, and 3 employees have not received $1 of the benefits our company pays into every month. EDD is not answering our hundreds of phone calls several emails. NOT one time. We ask you to take up our fight. We implore you to over rule Dr. Mase and allow us to provide for our families, services our guests, and go back to the work we love so much. We want our constitutional right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness back. I made y’all a video!!! This was completely outside of my comfort zone. I struggled through this whole process. From filming, to editing, listening to my voice for hours, figuring how to post and upload this( I failed 6 plus times!). Technology is not my jam, but I am learning to adapt. But I worked through my insecurities, and shame about my weight, sound of my voice, and feelings of not being enough. I did it for you....
