Please join us in welcoming Loreto Lopez to the CCEF team as our new Administrator. Loreto Lopez is an emerging arts manager whose goal is to help families lea...rn about the arts and how transformative they can be to our lives. She is committed to discovering different avenues for increasing the participation of low-income families and people of color in the arts. She aspires to collaborate with these communities to establish a relationship between their members and cultural organizations in the greater Los Angeles area. Loreto is currently a member of the Leadership Council for EAL/LA and works on the Programming Committee and DEAI (Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion) Task Force. She most recently worked as an Administrative Assistant in the Conservation Center at LACMA and completed an Apprenticeship with the Arts and Culture Commission within the City of Glendale’s Library, Arts & Culture Department. She has held prior internships at the Museum of Tolerance and at Amistad National Recreation Area in Del Rio, TX through the Latino Heritage Internship Program. Loreto received her B.A. in Art History with a minor in Archaeology from Loyola Marymount University. She is currently pursuing her M.A. in Arts Management through Sotheby’s Institute of Art at Claremont Graduate University. See more

A police involved shooting occurred yesterday around the Platform at Washington and Landmark.
Last week, city council discussed a potential increase to property transfer taxes, which apply when someone is buying or selling a home. These increases would impact houses being sold at $750,000 or more, and are heavily weighted towards homes sold for $2.5 million or more. Read about it here

Take a look at the agenda for the July 27 Culver City council meeting, which will feature a discussion about creating a ballot measure for the November general election to raise the Culver City property transfer tax. Property transfer taxes are taxes levied on properties when they change ownership based on the value of the property. Currently, buyers in Culver City pay two taxes: one to LA County that is equivalent to 0.11% of the sale price of the property, or $1.10 per $1,000 of the sale price, and one to Culver City that is currently set at 0.45%, or $4.50 per $1,000 of the sale price. https://culver-city.legistar.com/View.ashx
