Dear Theatre Patrons, faculty, and staff, The faculty, staff, and students of the Department of Theatre Arts thank you for your patience as we learn how to deal with these unprecedented times. As you are most likely aware, with social distancing requirements in place, Once Upon A Mattress will not proceed as ORIGINALLY scheduled. However, the show must go on! Director Tom Provenzano, the crew, and our actors are working as hard as ever to bring you the quality entertainment ...you’ve come to expect from the CSUSB Department of Theatre Arts. Our actors are even rehearsing with one another via Zoom what an interesting time to be in entertainment! As soon as we have a definitive course plotted you will be the first to know. Dear CSUSB Theatre Patrons, Due to the ongoing threat of the COVID-19 virus, the CSUSB Department of Theatre Arts has made the difficult decision to POSTPONE our fund-raising production of Love Letters as well as the Players of the Pear Garden Reunion that was to immediately follow it. Both Love Letters and the PPG Reunion will happen in our Fall 2020 semester. We will keep everyone apprised of the new date as soon as it has been chosen. In the meantime, the tickets that you ...purchased for the show will be automatically transferred to the new date as soon as possible. Please follow us on social media for updates as we work through these issues. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for being our patron.

A Players of the Pear Garden Reunion following Love Letters performance Join us as we reconnect with, and say goodbye, to some old friends Cal State San Bernardino’s Department of Theatre Arts celebrates the history of the Players of the Pear Garden, as well as the careers of retiring professor Margaret Perry, soon-to-be retiring professor Tom Provenzano, and retired technical director Harlan Jeglin, with a one-day-only special presentation of A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters.... The production, starring Perry and Provenzano, will be in the Performing Arts Recital Hall on Saturday, March 21, followed by a reunion of the Players of the Pear Garden. The Players of the Pear Garden -which takes its name from an association of theatre scholars in ancient China -was the first student organization on campus, founded in 1966 by Ronald E. Barnes. Since its inception, the Players of the Pear Garden (or PPG) has featured some of the university’s best and brightest students in key leadership roles that have carried them well beyond their tenure with CSUSB and into successful careers within the community. The Players of the Pear Garden reunion will feature music, games, light refreshments, and a silent auction, with all proceeds going to the Harlan Jeglin Scene Shop Fund. Love Letters has been a performance favorite since its debut at the Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven, Conn., on Nov. 4, 1988. What begins as innocently as birthday cards and passed notes, becomes something much more meaningful over the span of 50 years. The play follows the lives of Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner, two childhood friends who develop a deep love for one another though separated by distance and circumstance. Throughout all of life’s successes and failures, their connection continues to deepen into an unbreakable bond that transcends friendship. Tickets for this special fundraising event are $15 for CSUSB students, and children 17 and under; $20 for adults 18 and up, and, as with the silent auction, all proceeds will go toward the Harlan Jeglin Scene Shop Fund. Tickets can be purchased online at theatre.csusb.edu or in person at the theatre arts box office inside the Performing Arts building at CSUSB. Parking at CSUSB is $6 Monday-Friday and $3 on the weekend. For additional information, please contact the Theatre Box Office at (909) 537-5884 or [email protected].
