Today we continue Coyote Series with Faith Ramsey! Swipe to see her inspiring story and work . I am currently studying graphic design at CSUSB. I started doing art since I was four years old. I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome since I was seven years old I am loving it today. My goals are to graduate with a Bachelors degree in the Arts and work as an illustrator in a company after graduation.... I love learning more about Pan African culture. I would consider myself humble as an African-American individual. Despite the challenges I am faced with, I always admire my identity. People will have different visuals of me, but I would not worry about it. I was taught to brush off all of the negativity out of my because I know it will be able to bring me down. I am thankful that I am my own person and that my Pan African identity symbolizes me greatly. My Pan African identity influences my creativity by finding interest in others and their Pan African identity. Their character inspired me to visualize how strong their identity feels like when creating it on a canvas. The purpose is very eye-opening to me. It demonstrates how I can creatively perceive them, and myself, as Pan African individuals. . IG: @lmuarts1.0 . #csusb #thecoyoteseries #csusbbhm #csusbbhm21 #blacklivesmatter

Our next Coyote Series feature is Tylin Sands! Check out some of her work . I am a 4th year majoring in Child Development. I am currently the president of the Upsilon Gamma Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the president of the Young People's Department (YPD) at St. Paul AME. In my spare time I love to create art in many different forms -drawing, painting, journaling, scrapbooking, dancing, and singing. I find myself creating many works that have to do wi...th the beauty and strength of black women. As the most underappreciated group in America, I find it very empowering to create work that represents us rather than demand diversity in other people's work. The Coyote Series is back! Our first feature for Black History Month is Tyrina Horton! Swipe left to see some of her amazing poetry! . I'm an English Creative Writing Student here at CSUSB. I identify as a poet and fiction writer with aspirations of being published. My work centers around black women and the ordianary stories that remind people that black women are human too. Black women love and hurt. We are both chill and extra and so dynamic and layered in ways th...at others within and outside of our community that sometimes we just want to be left alone and exist without interruption. Those are the sentiments I often choose to include in my work. . Check her IG out at @poetxessxty . #csusb #csusbbhm #csusbhm21 #blackhistorymonth #blacklivesmatter #coyoteseries See more

The Coyote Series features Alicia! Check out her work My name is Alicia Echevarria, I am Guatemalan and Puerto Rican. I am a Communication Studies Major. When I was younger, I was taught to be proud of my upbringings through what my grandparents and my culture. Having heard stories of how my grandparents came to this to have a better future and an opportunity to be something more than their lives in Guatemala. My grandmother would teach me how to make tamales to keep t...raditions alive in our family and knowing only Spanish, I was taught their language Through my art, my objective is to bring awareness and show pride in the heritage and culture of Latinx Countries. I want to bring knowledge and various countries that people are not aware or otherwise never know. . #csusb #csusbhhm2020 #hispanicheritagemonth

On today’s Coyote Series, we feature Erika DeAnda. Swipe left to check out her story! . I am an art education major in the hopes of one day becoming an art educator. I work full time in special education while also attending CSUSB full time. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, whether it’s something as simple as a homecooked meal together or sitting out on the porch enjoying an evening chat. My extended circle is one of a kind and incredibly important to me. I... come from a captivating multigenerational extended family who value and respect our Mexican culture. At a young age my parents instilled the value of higher education and the many opportunities it could offer. They wanted a better life for my siblings and I. My father immigrated to the US as a teenager and worked his way up to where he is today. It is his tenacity and immeasurable work-ethic that drives me to make him proud of me and all that I have and will accomplish. My mother and grandmother have had a tremendous influence on my life and are some of my biggest supporters. When they were young, they were expected to marry and raise children. They wanted different for me. No matter what I wish to pursue, they back my decisions and encourage me to pursue my goals no matter how impossible they seem. . #csusb #csusbhhm2020 #thecoyoteseries #hispanicheritagemonth

Check out Melissa Medina on today’s feature of The Coyote Series celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month . I am a second year student in the MFA program at CSUSB focusing in Studio Art. I completed my undergraduate studies at CSUSB and graduated with a Bachelor's in Art, with an emphasis in Visual Studies. My artistic practice centers on the concept of mortality, and I am currently exploring how this may look across different eras and cultures with the use of symbolism an...d color. With my recent work, I am including elements from my own cultural background. The Day of the Dead has always been a celebration that I have admired for both its aesthetic beauty and meaning. Being Hispanic has provided me with the opportunity to view mortality as more than a difficult experience; grieving the loss of a loved one always presents its share of difficulties, and with the traditions celebrated in the Day of the Dead, we are given the opportunity to pay tribute to our loved ones and commemorate them eternally. . #csusb #csusbhhm2020 #hispanicheritagemonth

My name is Rosario and I am a proud first-generation college student. Even though I live in California, I'm proud of my Mexican roots and everything the culture has taught me growing up. There is no better feeling than appreciating my Mexican heritage. #csusbhhm2020 #csusbhhm #hispanicheritagemonth #latinxheritagemonth #latinxhm #latinxhm2020 My Mexican heritage is full of traditions, beliefs, and history. My heritage has taught me the values of family, culture, and perseve...rance. My parents influence my culture appreciation; with their knowledge, I've learned much about where they grew up and Mexico's history. I respect the state of Jalisco because of the value it holds for my family & I. When I'm in Mexico the first thing I want to do is capture the scenery. The natural scenery is beautiful enough to influence my culture identity. Mexico views are beautiful and I encourage everyone to experience the scenery. See more

The SMSU & ASI are excited to share The Coyote Series Presents: Hispanic Heritage Month. Our first feature is Suany Echevarria with her poem."The poem details the memories I have of my childhood in Guatemala. The moments that I carry with me, those that lie within my soul, the small pieces of a life I had in my native land. They remind me that some of my gratefulness comes from my humble beginnings, those that carry me to strive for more." #TheCoyoteSeries #csusbhhm2020 #csusbhhm #hispanicheritagemonth #latinxheritagemonth
