If I just lose weight, I’ll be happy. When I have a lot of money, I’ll be happy. If I could get a promotion, I would be happy.... Wrong, says Jessica Kamrath, assistant professor of human communication studies at Cal State Fullerton. Achieving happiness involves a lot more than reaching a certain milestone or goal. http://news.fullerton.edu//finding-happiness-jessica-kamr/

"Anti-racism is not just talking or Tweeting; anti-racism is an action that requires both small and large acts of resistance and attacks to expose the inherently exclusionary nature of everyday normal policies, practices, and institutions. " - Alexandro Gradilla, associate professor of Chicana and Chicano studies at CSUF. Read more about this topic in the article below: http://news.fullerton.edu//anti-racism-is-more-than-talki/

The Guardian Scholars program has given students like Genesis Osuna '20 the opportunity to reach higher at CSUF. With the help of donors, such as Pat Donohue '78, fellow Scholars are able to pay for tuition and continue their studies. Osuna now serves as the president of the OC chapter of California Youth Connection, where she helps support to transform the foster care system in California. Congratulations to Katrina Smith, associate regional director of the Small Business Development Center at CSUF (SBDC), who in December was recognized by the Greater Irvine Chamber as an outstanding 40-Under-40 business professional in Orange County . Katrina has been hard at work helping businesses in Orange County and the Inland Empire make it through these tough times. While the pandemic has taken a toll on the economy, she and her team have made the necessary adjustmen...ts to best support them through the process. The award honors professionals younger than 40 employed in Orange County with excellent leadership skills, integrity and initiative. Way to go, Katrina! #csuf #sbdc #smallbusiness Ocie Sbdc https://business.fullerton.edu//katrina-smith-of-csufs-sm/

In July 2020, Upset Homegirls of Fullerton invited their community to march with them at Fullerton City Hall in solidarity with Black Lives Matter protestors, but instead of holding up protest signs, they asked participants to dance while sporting their BLK JOY T-shirts as music from Black artists played in the background. https://business.fullerton.edu//resistance-through-joy-fu/

The Fallen David is one of the most popular sculptures on campus. This replica of Michelangelo’s David fell and broke apart during the October 1987 Whittier Nar...rows earthquake. Two years later it was brought to CSUF and placed just north of the education classroom building. What's your favorite sculpture on campus? #CSUFAlumni See more

As California State University campuses shifted to mostly virtual classes this spring and closed their campuses, many college officials across the state worried that the effects of the coronavirus pandemic would devastate enrollments this fall. But just two months into the fall semester, more than half of the 23 campuses in the nation’s largest public university system have seen enrollment gains, bucking a national trend. http://news.fullerton.edu//msclip-edsource-CSUF-sets-new-r

The pandemic’s shuttering of Disneyland has cost the Southern California economy $3 billion already and will cost it another $2 billion through March 2021 if the theme park remains closed, according to a Cal State Fullerton forecast. Anil Puri, director of the CSUF’s Woods Center for Economic Analysis and Forecasting, says the school’s economists made those estimates based on work sponsored by Disneyland a year ago that attempted to quantify the resort’s economic footprint. The Anaheim park’s strong visitor draw powers numerous related businesses, such as hotels to eateries. http://news.fullerton.edu//msclip-CSUF-forecast-Disneyland

Southern California is once again under wildfire siege this week, and this time, Orange County is the center of the action, with two large fires - the Silverado Fire in the Santa Ana Mountain foothills east of Irvine and the Blue Ridge Fire in Chino Hills State Park - burning a combined 28,000 acres and destroying or damaging a number of homes. And once again, this means bad air quality for the area. According to AirNow, air quality is unhealthy today in Fullerton and much o...f North Orange County. It's an improvement from yesterday, but still poor conditions. Better air quality can be found in much of Los Angeles County, the Inland Empire and San Diego. The best rating, which measures particulates, is Good, and the worst is Hazardous, on a six-category scale. It's a good choice to limit your outdoor exercise, consider wearing a mask (even when not around others) and choose an indoor workout. With lighter winds, there are hopes for improving conditions over the next few days, but a lack of rainfall following months of hot and dry weather are sure to keep fire danger around for the foreseeable future. https://voiceofoc.org//orange-county-confronts-two-emerge/

Where is the economy headed in 2021 and beyond? Cal State Fullerton economists Anil Puri and Mira Farka take a look in their annual Economic Forecast, presented virtually on Oct. 22 and looking at the impact of COVID-19 on Orange County, California, the nation and the world. Our outlook is that the recovery, while beating the most bearish estimates, will be beset by a number of risks and setbacks, which will be resolved only when the virus is fully behind us either through... therapeutic treatments or a vaccine, they reported. Read about the complete outlook and what it means for you in this CSUF Business News article. https://business.fullerton.edu//what-will-the-post-pandem/

While National Do Something Nice Day was Oct. 5, we all can uplift someone anytime! Did you know that doing something for someone else raises your own self-esteem and promotes feelings of satisfaction. So doing something for someone else actually is doing something for yourself. Whoa, we lost ourself there. Here are 5 quick ways to positively impact someone’s day: Perform an act of kindness. This can be listening to how someone’s day went or getting them their favorite ca...ndy and safely dropping it off to them. Give someone an uplifting compliment. Like someone’s outfit? Let them know in the zoom chat in your next class! I know I always feel good when people give me random compliments. Give a friend or family member a call. It’s always good to check in to see how everyone is doing. Don’t be afraid to pick up that phone for a five minute call. It’s often more satisfying than a text convo. And you don’t have to furiously type out your messages Support a cause close to your heart. It’ll feel good, we promise. Treat yourself. Self-care = best care. Do something nice for yourself today. Whether it’s taking an hour for a long walk, whether it’s grabbing a pint of your favorite ice cream, or whether it’s watching a new series on Netflix and just turning off for an hour, do something for you. After all, you can’t take care of anyone else if you’re not taking care of yourself first. #csuf #selfcare #mentalhealth #dosomethingnice See more
