Al Día wins Murrow Award: Al Día has achieved another milestone. The student-produced broadcast has been recognized by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) with a student Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in a Video Newscast. A Border Emergency, the winning newscast, was produced by eight students after a four-day trip to Tijuana and San Diego, and was honored at RTDNA’s 2020 Murrow Awards ceremony, which was held virtually this year amid the ongoing gl...obal coronavirus pandemic. The CSUF students reported on a number of topics, including migrants seeking asylum, deported veterans, separated families and high-tech child-sex exploitation. The national winners were selected from more than 5,000 entries. The winning CSUF team includes alumni: Viviana Borroel, Jessica Cardenas, Xochilt Lagunas, Rita La Vau, Maricela Perez, Tania Thorne, Dominic Torres, Regina Yurrita, and Faculty Advisor Jesús Ayala. Among the most prestigious in news, the Murrow Awards recognize local and national news stories that uphold the RTDNA Code of Ethics, demonstrate technical expertise and exemplify the importance and impact of journalism as a service to the community. Murrow Award winning work demonstrates the excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the broadcast news profession.
