FBI Warning: Phishing Emails Push Fake Govt Stimulus Checks THE FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center is warning of an ongoing phishing campaign delivering spam that uses fake government economic stimulus checks as bait to steal personal information from potential victims. These emails ask you to verify your personal information in order to receive an economic stimulus check from the government.... While talk of economic stimulus checks has been in the news cycle, government agencies are not sending unsolicited emails seeking your private information in order to send you money. If you receive one of these emails you should delete it.
FaceApp WARNING! The newest craze out there is an app called FaceApp. The company, based in Russia, developed the app for one purpose, data harvesting! Millions of Americans have already uploaded their faces using this app without first reading the terms and conditions associated with it. Here are those terms in a nutshell:... By using the app you grant the company "a perpetual, irrevocable, nonexclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, fully-paid, transferable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish and display" your image. Folks, we are little by little giving up every aspect of our private and personal lives in the name of entertainment. We post everything from birthdays for ourselves and loved ones to where we work, live and vacation on Facebook. Please don’t help the criminals by also putting a face to all that information.

Is it Safe to Allow Remote Access to Your Computer? Remote access to allow someone to fix your computer is appealing but the risks often far out way any benefits. There has been a sharp rise in Tech Support Scams using lies and even threats, to get remote access to your machine. Once they have it, they install malware or leave back doors that allow them continued remote access to your machine when you’re not around.... In general, remote access means giving someone complete access to your machine and then allowing them to do whatever they want once inside. With the rise of the tech support scam, there’s one very simple, easy-to-follow rule: Never allow remote access to someone who called you. That’s exactly how the tech support scams succeed in capturing its victims. They call first. The only acceptable approach to allowing anyone remote access is only after you’ve vetted and selected an appropriate technician or service, and only when you make the first contact. If you think you’ve been the victim of one of these scams contact us at Computer Resurrection Services, we’ll undo the damage and help lower the chances of future unwanted access. Is Windows 10 Built-in Virus Protection Enough? I am finding that many of the systems I work on these days have multiple third party antivirus programs installed due to the mistaken belief that more is better. In reality, using multiple programs can lead to undesirable results such as system slow-downs, conflicts between programs and changes to Windows the developer doesn’t tell you about. Known as Windows Defender, Microsoft’s answer to virus protection is well suited for pr...otecting you against most threats that you may encounter and does it all without the need for additional protection. Fact is, Windows Defender offers 100% protection against zero-day attacks, slows web browsers down by only 4% compared to industry average of 10% and produces fewer false positives than competitors. Overall, Windows Defender covers the basics, offers decent protection, it’s free with Windows 10, and it runs with a low system impact. Do you need more protection? A complete analysis of your particular computing habits will determine your specific needs. Contact us at CRS if you are concerned about the amount of protection your circumstances require. We’ll set your system up to give you the edge over the threats you might be exposed to and give you peace of mind in knowing your data is safe. (951) 609-5556
