December is finally here and with it comes some of the coldest temps we've seen in a while! Here are some friendly reminders to keep you safe while you deal with the freeze . . - Never leave your car running unattended . . with the cold weather it can be temping to leave your car warm up unattended in the driveway - bad idea . . criminals will jump to take advantage of this opportunity - To keep pipes from freezing, wrap them in insulation or layers of newspapers, covering th...e newspapers with plastic to keep out moisture. Allow a trickle of warm water to run from a faucet that is farthest from your water meter. This will keep the water moving so that it cannot freeze. Learn how to shut off your water if a pipe bursts. - When utilizing alternate heating sources, such as your fireplace, or space heater, take the necessary safety precautions. Keep a fire extinguisher handy; ensuring everyone knows how to use it properly. Test smoke alarms and Carbon Monoxide (CO) detectors. And remember . . Crime Alert Security offers Smoke and Fire detectors that are directly linked to our monitoring station, so in case of a fire the fire dept will be dispatched whether you are home or not!
