San Diego Crew Classic

It's Giving CREWsday! The annual San Diego Crew Classic doesn't happen by chance. Dozens of planners and hundreds of volunteers spend countless hours making this regatta such a glorious success. But even dedicated volunteers cannot make this event happen without at least $400,000 available to cover the cost of the regatta. This 80-year-old retired major aims to row 100 miles in his homemade "tintanic" boat to raise money for charity. The inspiration for his vessel was a trip to India where he saw tin boats. Major Michael Stanley, who served in the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, made his boat during lockdown out of "two sheets of corrugated iron, curtain hooks, and hosepipe." Pretty clever!
