Are you considering getting married or know someone that is in 2021? Here are a few items I recommend couples discuss prior to marriage. 1) Be open and honest about your debt. It's not good to start off a marriage without being fully transparent. 2) Pay ahead. It's probably not possible to pay off your car or mortgage before marriage, but it's a great idea to pay off any smaller debts to start off on a clean slate. 3) Set up auto payments. Each person has their own bills a...nd it may be easier to manage if you are set up on auto payments for household expenses such as utilities. 4) Joint checking account-Some couples plan to keep bank accounts separate and that's ok. However, I think there should be at least one joint account for the household for the what-if's in life. Also, you can give each other some accountability to your spending. 5) Set up a family savings account- This is similar to #4, but this is for a specific goal like a down payment or vacation fund. 6) Talk about your philosophy regarding money. Are you spender or a saver? Do you see money as way to create security or a reward for your hard work. You don't have to agree 100%, but you should know how your partner feels and talk about how money was managed in your own household growing up. 7) Considering hiring a financial professional for a financial plan to address these issues if you find that you need help. Who doesn't like to find $20 in their pocket? Well, I found a client $900 this week! I was meeting with a client who was a little upset and adamant her previous employer kept her retirement money. I asked, "Have you ever looked at the state of CA unclaimed property site?" Sure enough, we searched and there was over $900 in her name. It's easy to do! You never know you might find some lost funds. Here is the link: https://bit.ly/3nm5R2F
