To ensure your home is built to the quality you expect, make sure you ask your builder what their processes are for ensuring quality during construction. If they can’t answer this, that is a cause for concern. Discover the quality control process your builder should have in our latest article: https://hubs.ly/H0BBsKg0

#1 tip for designing your dream home is to get specific on the details for the finishes of your new home. This more than just stating that you want grey marble benchtops. You should find the exact product you want to be included and document the exact model numbers. When you use generic descriptions in the selections for your finishes, it allows a builder to potentially choose a product that isn’t of the standard you expected.... craftsmen. a person who practices or is highly skilled in a craft; artisan - ORIGIN OF CRAFTSMAN 132575; Middle English craftes man man of skill, In a world of digital technology and prefabricated objects, traditional trades are often overlooked. Unfortunately, much of the modern world has forgotten how much detailed work and raw talent it takes to create even the most basic of handcrafted items. It's easy for people to disregard the importance of t...raditional craftsmanship. We tend to be too focused on mastery of the digital universe these days, clamoring for faster computers and more reliable cellular networks. Even necessary skills that help fulfill our basic needs, like carpentry, get overlooked and taken for granted. The truth is, we wouldn't be here if it weren't for the handiwork of generations past. This country was built by the hands of tradesmen and artisans, from knowledge that was passed on through hundreds of generations. In the times of ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome, having the title of a craft worker was an honor. The men in the photos are exemplary examples of highly skilled Craftsmen. They have hewn their trade and are master craftsmen. @ Fairfield, California See more

A lot going on here...water and air management with Dc14 by Kingspan. The 1x4 is being used to make a mechanical attachment the exterior SiP panels and also the 1x vertical siding. We also shimmed the 1x4 to plumb and level the wall. For a perfectly flat and straight wall assembly that will extend the life of the siding. #cedarsiding #buildingscience #wallassembly #framing #siding

Bad joints ... that open up over time or just not perfect are the worst! We are installing a 3x pre-finished fascia. The secret to a joint that doesn’t move or open. Starts with moisture content of the material. Store the material off the ground especially if it’s a concrete slab. Make sure all ends and cuts are sealed. Then make sure you fasten properly. We’re pre-drilling our holes and using lags into the framing, sealing our cuts and then plugging. #badjoints #joints #framing #fascia #framing #sealyourends @ Napa, California

Waterproofing - Getting the details right is so important when it comes to dealing with water. Over the years we have self performed all waterproofing that has been installed over plywood. Our product of choice is @plidek. It has been reliable over the past 12 yrs. The process is pretty simple and easy to get right if you can follow directions. They have a great resource on their website of flashing details and step by step describing the process. The first step is to make su...re the substrate your working on is sound substrate. Plidek requires a 3/4 wood substrate w/ a 1/4 per’ slope with the butt ends gapped by 1/8. Next on the list is the flashing. I’ve included a couple of their details from their website. Following the flashing is the metal lathe. The lathe is a 2.5 lb diamond lathe nailed w/ 12 stapes per square. This step mechanically fastens the system to the plywood. We then screed a base coat over the metal lathe. The base coat chemically fastens to the plywood and the lathe (no pictures of this step). Following is the fiberglass and resin. This acts as another layer of waterproofing and a anti fracture membrane. The last step is installing the top coat. This is screeded over the resin and acts as a protection coat for the pd resin. This has been a very reliable system for us. #waterproofing #walkingdecks #plideksystems #plidek #windowwaterproofing #buildingscience @ Napa, California See more

The care and detail our employees take during installation makes me proud. We focus on detail & proper installation methods. The steps that it takes to install the rafter tails. It starts with lay out, making sure all cuts are sealed and even down to cutting the plugs so the color and grain matches. #luxury #siding #cedarsiding #raftertails @ Napa, California
