Come find us at 34.0591, -117.8236 from 2:00-4:00 today.
Come check out our booth this Wednesday, August 21st at the Cal Poly Pomona Bronco Fusion Club Fair on the university quad. We will be demoing geophysical hardware and will be having some serious fun. Bring a friend and show them what it is exploration geophysicists do on a daily basis. UTM coordinates for our specific table locations will be posted on Wednesday. Hope to see you there!
We have our second meeting of the semester today! See you at U-hour in room A-634!
We're proud of our SEG and EEGS e-board who presented posters at the Southern California Earthquake Center Annual Meeting in Palm Springs!
Yesterday SEG members Peter Flores, Kyle Macy, Jennifer Pfau and Rachel Kreuziger went out to Rancho Palos Verdes and set up 3 seismometers on the Portuguese Bend landslide. Approximately 2 hours of ambient noise was recorded, which included the movements of two goats out on an afternoon stroll (thankfully they didn't attempt to eat our cables, sadly no picture was taken).
Just a reminder tonight is our Brewery Social! 6pm on the patio at Brew Works!
Congratulations to the new officers for 2018-2019! Peter Flores: President Anisha Tyagi: Vice President Rachel Kreuziger: Secretary
Today, SEG members Veronica Hernandez, Nicole Gage, Chloe Sutkowski, Oscar Prado, and Rathana Sambath conducted the first CPP archaeological geophysics field survey. This site in Riverside, CA is rumored to contain the remains of what was La Placita/Agua Mansa pre-1862 flooding of the Santa Ana River. Equipment employed: GEM Systems magnetic gradiometer and GSSI ground penetrating radar.
Advanced Topics in Seismology conducted a ReMi (Refraction Microtremor) survey on campus today. Data will be processed and evaluated to determine shear wave velocity, as is done in geotechnical site characterizations. We are all excited about adding this resume boost!
Hey everyone! Reminder that we have our winter quarter meeting tomorrow during U-hour. We have prepared an informative talk on conferences, scholarships, internships, projects we have been working on, and projects that need volunteers who are seeking experience operating geophysical equipment. We will provide pizza and soda for you wonderful humans during this midterm season. Hope to see you there!
Advanced Topics in Seismology brought out the seismometers yesterday for an on-campus experiment! We measured ambient vibrations for about 90 minutes in order to obtain the horizontal to vertical spectral ratio which will aid in determining the resonance frequency... hopefully it won’t match the resonance of 6-8 story dorms which are currently going up.
Hey everyone! We will be hosting a meeting in a couple of weeks in 4A-634 (aka the bigger room) during U-hour on Tuesday, February 6th. Hope to see you there!
