MYTH: Tobacco products like e-cigarettes and vape pens are not as harmful as cigarettes. #MythMonday That’s FALSE! Alternative forms of tobacco are just as dangerous as cigarettes. Unfortunately, teens often believe that electronic cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, clove cigarettes, candy-flavored cigarettes, water pipes (hookahs), and marijuana smoking are a safe option. But these things contain toxic carcinogens that have been shown to increase the risk of lung cancer, throa...t cancer, mouth cancer, heart attacks and other lung diseases. Since the teen years are often when nicotine addictions start, teens are at risk of long-term health problems. Learn more about the dangers of e-cigarettes and other tobacco products and help your teen make the right decision. https://tobaccofreeca.com/topics/youth/ See more

If you had a choice between fresh vegetables and French fries, which would you choose? Turns out that the foods we are introduced to as toddlers combined with advertisements for unhealthy foods has a lot to do with our food choices. #nutritution
Today’s #fridayfunny comes from Dr. Claudia Camacho, pediatrician at CPCMG Corona and CPCMG Wildomar. I had a four-year-old come in around Halloween. He told me he brought in a roly-poly bug to show me. When he opened his hand, he was actually holding a lady bug. I told him that it was a lady bug and pointed out the polka dots on its back and its red color. He became very quiet and concentrated on the insect in his palm and then he looked up at me and said very adamantly, it IS a roly-poly but it's just that he's wearing a Halloween costume." I learned never to argue with a four-year-old.

The CDC has announced new guidelines for quarantine. You can reduce the number of days of quarantine after exposure if absolutely necessary. You can reduce your quarantine with a negative test, but the test needs to be done 5 days after quarantine begins and you should be asymptomatic. Quarantine can end after the 7th day with a negative test but you need to continue to monitor for symptoms. Alternatively, you can end quarantine at 10 days without a test if no symptoms have developed. The previous guideline of 14 days remains the safest option. #COVID19

CPCMG pediatrician Dr. Annalisa Abjelina really picked a good one for today’s #fridayfunny: A little boy came in with a long-lasting nosebleed. His parents were concerned as he had been getting them a lot. This last nosebleed happened even though the parents followed doctor instructions to use petroleum jelly in the nostrils every day and use nasal saline spray to keep the nostrils moist. The doctor had learned not to ask kids IF they picked their nose but instead WHICH fi...nger they used. But this boy didn’t want to answer the question. Finally, he proudly answered that he used ALL of them, showing the doctor exactly what he meant by sticking each of his 10 fingers in his nose one at a time! He was prescribed some allergy medications that night and learned how to properly clean his nose with tissue. Case solved! For more information on nosebleeds, check out the CPCMG blog: https://www.cpcmg.net/nosebleeds-what-you-need-to-know/
