#Repost from CDG 892 President Salvador Perez: Hey Nordstrom Rack , I spent an hour In your store pulling a huge cart of clothes and your employees said they didn’t allow studio shoppers in the store??? I spend a million dollars a year on the shows I design. It seems foolish to discriminate against the 3500 costume professionals in Los Angeles, every other store in LA appreciates my business except the rack!? Can someone at corporate please explain this to me as the president of the costume designers guild? My members and the members of Motion Picture Costumers IATSE Local 705 would love an answer! We are trying to spend our money in LA to help the local businesses during this pandemic! P.S. Saks OFF 5TH gladly took my money!!

Our favorite #Halloween stories live on in #horror films. With every franchise and new release, #CostumeDesigners add a little terror and mysticism to each character they create with unforgettable designs. These costumes live on for generations and become part of the tradition of dressing up for #Halloween. #CostumeDesignersGuild #CDG892 _ The Silence of the Lambs (1991). #Holidate follows Sloane (Emma Roberts) and Jackson (Luke Bracey), two single strangers who meet and pledge to be each other’s holidate for every festive occasion as to not face the constant judgement from their meddling families. #CostumeDesigner Helen Huang shares, The cast is tremendous, and everyone was so eager to embody these wonderful and quirky characters. I was also fortunate to have a dynamite crew that met all the challenges and really helped to execute these joyous costumes that embody the spirit of holiday togetherness." #Holidate is now available on @Netflix. _ #CostumeDesignersGuild #CDG892 #HelenHuang #EmmaRoberts #LukeBracey

Meet CDG Member and Costume Designer Anthony Tran! #CDGinFocus _ FIRST JOB IN THE INDUSTRY? Costume Intern on "Insidious" with Costume Designer Kristin Burke. FIRST JOB EVER? Shelving books and making arts/crafts displays at my local library in high school. ... LAST JOB? I was designing the pilot of "Kung Fu" for WBTV/CW in Vancouver. We shut down 4 days into shooting due to COVID-19. HAVE A MENTOR? Donna Fritsche (who was the Resident Costume Designer at the Long Beach Playhouse). She taught me to sew and gave me my first professional theater costume design job. There's also many members of the CDG who have been very supportive and kind to me over the years, including Deborah Landis (who I met when I went to UCLA), Kristin Burke, Danielle Baker, Christine Bieselin Clark, and Jennifer Eve. MOST INTERESTING LOCATION YOU HAVE FILMED IN? 3 months in Puerto Rico. PROJECT YOU ARE MOST PROUD OF? I was very excited to be designing the reboot of "Lizzie McGuire" for Disney+. Hilary Duff is such an awesome person to collaborate with. We had a lot of special things planned. It's on hold at the moment. WHICH JOB WAS THE HARDEST TO GET? The first union design job I got was a superhero show for Disney Channel called "Mighty Med". My resume up to that moment had been small indies and costume assistant jobs. PROJECT YOU WISH YOU COULD TAKE OFF IMDB? There is one for sure, but I'm going to have to plead the 5th... GO-TO LUNCH WHILE PREPPING? McDonald's. Don't judge. LEAST FAVORITE FOOD? Green juice. FAVORITE CHARACTER YOU HAVE DESIGNED? Pauline in "Excision" (a genre/horror indie that premiered at Sundance a while back). She is this disturbed, misfit high school student by day and has these wild, psychosexual fantasies when she goes to bed. It was like designing for 2 completely different people. AnnaLynne McCord played her, and she was game for anything. FAVORITE FILM CHARACTER YOU DID NOT DESIGN? Many but Catwoman in "Batman Returns." DREAM COLLABORATOR? Bong Joon Ho. That seems like an of the moment kind of answer, but I've always loved his films and his distinct point of view/style. WHAT FILMS AND/OR COSTUMES INSPIRE YOU? Lots of old Hollywood movies "The Women, "Bonnie and Clyde, "Cleopatra, The Lord of the Rings, and more recently "I, Tonya. MOST UNUSUAL PERSON YOU HAVE DESIGNED FOR/WORKED WITH THAT WAS NOT AN ACTOR? No one comes to mind at this moment ... HAVE YOU DESIGNED/WORKED ON ANY COSTUMES FOR ANIMALS? Yes, a superhero dog. He was very nice. WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO TRADE PLACES WITH? Myself pre-corona times? OTHER CAREER CHOICE? Lawyer. I took the LSAT. GUILTY PLEASURE? The OG Forensic Files and any true crime show WORK RELATED PET PEEVE? Late casting and the general disrespect/disregard for our profession. WE WOULD BE SURPRISED TO KNOW THAT YOU Speak fluent Vietnamese, but can't read or write it? HOW DO YOU UNWIND? Trips, taking naps, and trash television

A winner of 8 Oscars, Edith Head was one of the founding members of the Costume Designers Guild. Her trademark bob and round glasses are unmistakable and her impact on #CostumeDesign and popular culture are lasting. Head famously said, What a costume designer does is a cross between magic and camouflage... Today we celebrate her birthday. #CostumeDesignersGuild #CDG892 #EdithHead

The #Halloween episodes of our favorite TV series showcase the cultural impacts of #CostumeDesign. These episodes allow #CostumeDesigners to pay homage to the history, magic and synchronicity of costumes. #CostumeDesigners are tasked with the responsibility to uphold the characters’ development in the storyline, while also celebrating a contemporary take on the traditions of #Halloween. #CostumeDesignersGuild #CDG892 _ Black-ish, S6 E6. The return to work has presented many challenges, and opportunities for further discussion of safety on set for Costume Designers and their teams. CDG Member Audrey Fisher shares her experience with returning to work, in late July, I was invited back for reshoots on my Netflix-partnered feature, #Kate. I was grateful to get my Covid training wheels with familiar faces and only a handful of new costumes. Shooting in Hawaii was the curveball. When I traveled, a 14 day quarant...ine was already mandated, and a negative PCR nasal Covid test was required within 72 hours of flying. Upon arrival, I went into isolation in my hotel for 5 days, then tested again. If a crew member was found to have broken quarantine, the Film Commission was alerted. Thank goodness that didn’t happen! To complicate matters, the day before I was deemed fit to work, Hawaii’s spiking cases triggered a full lockdown. The Film Commission, however, allowed our production to continue prepping, deeming us essential workers. We were the first show back to work since the Pandemic. _ #CostumeDesignersGuild #CDG892 #AudreyFisher See more
