On Monday Oct. 1, the city of Costa Mesa, neighboring cities and the South Coast Air Quality Management District received hundreds of phone calls from local res...idents reporting a strong odor emanating through the air. While the city originally understood the odor was coming from offshore oil rigs, officials at the South Coast Air Quality Management District say the source of the odor is still under investigation. Officials at the South Coast Air Quality Management District confirmed they actively investigate these odors all the time and will do the same in this case. The South Coast AQMD web page has information about similar odors that have been noticed by residents in the past and the investigations surrounding them.
