Corona Police Department will hold a DUI Checkpoint October 23rd from 9:00pm to 3:00am at an undisclosed location within city limits. Checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of DUI crashes and arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired. During the checkpoint, officers will look for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.... With the easing of stay-at-home restrictions and more bars and restaurants being allowed to open, the Corona Police Department is committed to keeping the public safe. The safety of our community is and always will be our mission, Corporal Daniel Matson said. We are still out there in the middle of a pandemic because driving under the influence is still dangerous and puts a further strain on critical resources. The Corona Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications or over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. Always follow directions for use and read warning labels about driving or operating heavy machinery, which includes driving a car. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal. If you plan on drinking or taking medications that may impact your ability to drive safely, plan on staying at home. Drivers charged with DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Last Night in Corona Good afternoon Corona. Over the weekend, from 2 p.m. on Friday until 5 a.m. this morning, CPD responded to 505 incidents, including calls for service and pro-active patrols. These incidents included 32 alarms, 16 area checks, 56 disturbance calls, 59 property checks, eight pedestrian checks, and 47 traffic stops. Officers arrested 18 persons during the same period. About 2 p.m. on Friday, a female was selling flowers near the corner of Promenade and... Buchanan when a white sedan pulled up to buy six bouquets. When the female reached into the car to take the money, the male driver grabbed the female and attempted to pull her in the car. While CPD Officers were on their way, the male returned on foot and tried to order two more bouquets but fled before officers arrived. Detectives are working with the victim to obtain further information on the suspect and his vehicle. On Sunday, about 3:30 p.m., we received a call regarding two males passed out inside an Acura in the parking lot of 1193 Magnolia Avenue. Arriving officers ran the car's license plate and discovered the vehicle was a stolen vehicle from the City of Riverside. Inside the car was 26-year-old Jacob Aleksiejczk of Indio and 36-year-old Mario Villanueva of Hemet. Officers arrested Jacob for vehicle theft, and officers released Mario at the scene. At 6:54 hours, CPD officers responded to a call of shots fired at In N Out on Auto Center. One person who called advised they saw an unknown male shoot towards a white truck. The person who called and the suspect was gone when officers arrived. Officers discovered a small amount of blood and a bullet casing in a parking stall. Officers are following up on video sources near the area. Officers did not locate a victim. About 9:20 p.m., CPD officers responded to another call of shots fired in the 1000 block of Young Circle. The person who called the police advised they heard an argument and then heard several gunshots. As officers arrived in the area, a black Porsche was leaving and initially refused to stop for an officer; however, officers stopped the car a short distance away. It is unknown if the Porsche was involved in the shooting. Officers arrested the passenger, 39-year-old Termaine Williams of Corona, for a felony domestic violence warrant, and officers cited the driver, 29-year-old Reginald Gilliam of San Bernardino, for driving without a license. Officer Neff and his partner K9 Duke searched the area near the traffic stop, and K9 Duke located a .45 caliber handgun. While the traffic stop was occurring, more officers went to the residence where the shooting may have happened. After having everyone exit the home, officers entered the house and found a .45 caliber bullet upstairs. Officers also located several 9mm casing in the street as well. There were no victims of a shooting located. Follow up is being conducted by officers.

On Friday, around 11 p.m., Corona Police Officers responded to a residence regarding a medical aid. Officers arrived at the home to find the parents of a 26-year-old male performing CPR on their son. Officers believed the male might be experiencing an opioid overdose. CPD Officers confirmed with dispatch that paramedics were on their way and then administered a single dose of Narcan to the male, who regained consciousness. The male was transported to a local hospital for further treatment. If you know someone addicted to opiates, Narcan (naloxone) is available at pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens for purchase without a prescription. Having Narcan available until the arrival of professional care could save a life. Please contact your local pharmacy for pricing.

Last Night in Corona Good afternoon Corona. Over the weekend, from 7 p.m. on Friday until 5 a.m. today, we went to 645 incidents, including calls for service and pro-active patrols. Included in these calls were 38 alarms, 35 disturbing the peace calls, 75 property checks, ten pedestrian checks, 43 traffic stops, and 12 vehicle checks. Also, during this time, we arrested 16 persons for various charges. On Friday night, about 3:15 a.m., we responded to a traffic collision... in Corydon's 900 block. Before officers arrived, the driver, 34-year-old Jacquiline Polito of Ontario, left the scene and walked into the wooded area nearby, uninjured. Officers were able to locate Polito, and she was determined to be driving under the influence of alcohol. Officers arrested Polito and booked her at CPD's jail. Once sober, she was released with a citation. Earlier in the night, one of our officers responded to a "man down" call in the 900 block of E. Sixth Street. A man down incident can range from a medical emergency, overly intoxicated and passed out, or mental health concern. When the officers arrived, they contacted a 20-year-old female, who the officer thought was having a mental health incident. The officer began speaking with the female, but before long, the female decided to dart into oncoming traffic. The officer followed after the female fearing she may be hit by a car, causing her severe injuries. The officer grabbed the female, placed her on the ground, and prevented her from running in front of an approaching car. During this brief struggle with the female, the officer fractured his ankle. Although injured, our officer safely detained the female and then received medical treatment after assisting officers arrived. Officers and paramedics transported the female to a local hospital for 5150. Nothing else to report. Take care, Corona!
