Hello folks, Heading back in from another great day of fishing. Today we had 24 anglers aboard and fished between the Islands. Weather was windless, with a swell running from the west, very nice conditions. Most of our fishing was shallow, right around 100 feet deep, so ocean whitefish were heavy in the mix. Double droppers and squid strips was the go-to setup of course. Our results were: 200 rockfish 165 ocean whitefish... 2 lingcod 1 sheephead This works out to an average of over 15 fish per person! Capt Merit here. On our way home to Santa Barbara Harbor after another fantastic day on the water. Our 25 fishers decked: 250 rockfish, 120 ocean whitefish, 22 sheephead, 1 sculpin, ... 1 diamond turbot. We started where we had our best bite yesterday and stuck to it, 150 to 180 feet of water, limiting on rockfish with more than an hour to spare. The whitefish came at the same time. From there we fished a short time over sand hoping for a halibut, but came up with a turbot. Next was fishing the tall cliffs in right where we tussled with some gnarly sheephead, getting some and getting ruined by some more. Big fun in beautiful surroundings with new good friends. Heading in from the islands -- flat calm all day. With 25 anglers fishing they caught: 232 rockfish 197 ocean whitefish 12 lingcod 4 CA scorpion fish... 1 cabezon 1 halibut And released a really mean sarcastic fringehead. We worked generally shallower depths, adding in the extra ocean whitefish that comes with it. Our anglers did a great job twisting fins and hauling 'em up. Flat calm today, 24 fishing, caught 13 lings 3 sheephead 78 ocean whitefish 240 rockfish (limits)... We started close to the whitefish zone hoping to get lots of rockfish with whitefish time to spare, but those spots no bita. Our first biters were the lings, so we switched to straight live sardines and got 11 or so before continuing on. A stop later the cods started to come on in a hurry, fast enough we had time to hustle all the way back in to the whitefish zone for a quick pass. See more
