Alameda county has moved into Phase 1B for vaccinations, meaning more Californians are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Emergency Services; Any person over the age of 65. Head to myturn.ca.gov to check on your eligibility and find a distribution site near you.
I was honored to be part of the team. It’s a solemn responsibility. I wouldn’t do anything differently from the case that we made. For accountability, for history, we did the job. https://www.independentnews.com//article_77341932-723b-11e
No one should be subject to discrimination for how they identify or who they love, yet in 27 states it is still legal to deny housing to people based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. From serving on a jury, to receiving a quality education, we must pass the #EqualityAct to fight for a future where every LGBTQ+ person is equal under the eyes of the law.
Americans depend on a Postal Service that functions properly and expeditiously to deliver prescription medications, vital documents, ballots, and more. The previous administration’s failure to fill all the vacancies on the USPS Board of Governors has led to a lack of oversight of the severe mismanagement at USPS under Trump’s hand selected Postmaster General, Louis DeJoy It is imperative that President Biden take immediate action to appoint a nonpartisan Board of Governors who are ready to restore the USPS. Yesterday, I joined over 70 of my colleagues urging him to do just that. We must #ProtectUSPS.
Public health actions, like social distancing and staying home, have been critical to slowing the spread of COVID-19 but have also led to an increase in feelings of isolation and loneliness. With vaccinations being distributed and a declining positivity rate in California we have reasons to be hopeful, but we are not out of the woods yet. Check out these tips from Bay Area mental health experts on how to care for your mental and physical wellbeing as we continue to navigate these uncertain times. https://www.kqed.org//covid-could-impact-mental-health-for
Free, confidential COVID-19 testing is available for all residents in Alameda County. You do not need a doctor’s note or medical insurance to get tested, you will not be asked about your immigration status, and most test results are available within 2-5 days. https://covid-19.acgov.org/testing.page
FYI: Limiting ballot drop boxes, providing insufficient polling places, changing voting deadlines at the last minute, and challenging voting rights in the courts is voter suppression. https://www.cnn.com//eric-holder-2020-election-/index.html
79 years ago, 2,300 servicemembers lost their lives at Peal Harbor. Today, we remember those who sacrificed everything to fight for our country and we reflect on their bravery and heroism.

As California continues to reach grim coronavirus milestones, it is on all of us to stay alert and stay home whenever possible. Now is not the time to get complacent. We must all continue to wear a mask, wash our hands frequently, and try to keep interactions only with those in our immediate household. I know this is a challenging time for everyone, but we will get through this. https://www.sfchronicle.com//Nearly-one-in-10-coronavirus-
The Trump administration has had every chance to protect the American people. Now, we face a surge of cases of a magnitude far greater than we experienced in March. Our ability to lower the mortality rate of COVID-19 hinges on our hospitals’ number of beds and resources, which this spike threatens to deplete. We cannot afford for our hospitals to become overwhelmed. Donald Trump must act now to slow the spread of COVID-19. https://www.vox.com//covid-19-death-rates-hospitalizations
Both Contra Costa County and Alameda County will enact shelter-in-place orders that begin today and tomorrow. The orders will close outdoor dining, personal care services, playgrounds, bars and wineries, movie theaters, museums and zoos. It will allow for retail, grocery stores and other businesses to remain open but limit capacity at 20%. Restaurants can do takeout and delivery only. The order will take effect in Contra Costa County today at 10:00 p.m. It will take effect in Alameda County on Monday at 12:01 a.m. https://www.sfchronicle.com//Six-Bay-Area-jurisdictions-to
With the pandemic still raging across our nation and our state, it has never been more important to have health insurance. Covered California has a variety of plans and providers, and coverage may be more affordable than you think. CA15 Residents: Enrollment is open until January 31, 2021 and my office is available to assist with any comments or concerns. https://www.coveredca.com/
The Trump administration had no plan to reunite children detained at the border with their families. The House Judiciary Committee’s investigation uncovered harrowing facts proving that this administration intentionally constructed a disorganized and horrific policy to separate and imprison children at the border. This is a national disgrace, and we must do all we can to reunite these families. You can read the entire report here: https://judiciary.house.gov//the_trump_administration_fami.
Misinformation is the greatest threat to the 2020 election, and Donald Trump is a megaphone for conspiracy theories and various attempts to suppress the voice of the American people. Our nation must mute these baseless accusations and claims and stick to facts. There’s only six days left to cast your ballot! Be active, be heard, and #vote today! Check out my website for voting resources and information: https://swalwell.house.gov/election-resources
When faced with criticism, Donald Trump fans the fires of violence and hostility. He has threatened the safety of our intelligence officials, Members of Congress, and governors. Our public servants must be free to speak truth to power and fulfill their duties without fearing for their lives. https://www.washingtonpost.com//c6dbce02-1792-11eb-82db-60

We are one week away from the end of election season. There are so many ways to cast your ballot this year, so be sure to make your voice heard and #vote today. For voting information and resources, check out my website: https://swalwell.house.gov/election-resources.
I joined Congresswoman Katherine Clark, Congressman Bill Pascrell Jr., and 33 other House members in writing today to U.S. Attorney General William Barr to demand that he stop using the Department of Justice to interfere in the 2020 election on behalf of President Trump. This administration has recklessly abused the DOJ’s power to obstruct justice, threaten Trump’s political opponents, and spread conspiracies and misinformation. These unconstitutional actions are a danger to our election’s integrity and our democracy at large. Attorney General Barr must stop acting for Trump and start acting #ForThePeople.
Two years ago today, an act of senseless violence robbed us of 11 lives when Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life Synagogue was attacked by an anti-Semitic gunman. Yet while background checks have massive bipartisan support, Senate Majority Leader McConnell refuses to take action that could protect lives. We cannot continue on this path. #EnoughIsEnough - let’s #EndGunViolence. Shelo ted'u od tza'ar to the families of those lost. In the face of hatred and bigotry, let us all stand together in love and kindness. Hate cannot break a city of steel.
After the nighttime swearing-in of Justice Amy Coney Barrett, the Supreme Court now has a 6-3 conservative majority. This puts the Affordable Care Act in jeopardy. Trump claims he will do all he can to protect pre-existing conditions, but his lawyers have been challenging these protections all along. https://www.npr.org//if-the-aca-falls-protecting-preexisti
This election season has been stressful to say the least, and many of us are feeling bogged down by the constant stream of news, updates, and notifications. While it’s important for us to be active citizens and stay informed, your mental health should always come first. Please take time for yourself to refresh and recharge. Stay healthy and safe. https://www.npr.org//election-stress-getting-to-you-4-ways
