Windows XP Support from Microsoft just ended So should you rush to buy Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 if you have Windows XP? No. A lot of our customers have called to ask us what they should do if they have Windows XP. First, what does "ending support mean?"... Starting April 8, 2014, Microsoft will stop creating little security patches they used to create to heal little problems that were discovered and created a potential security problem for Windows XP. These security patches normally get automatically downloaded by your computer when you are connected and you have your computer set up to do automatic updates. That's it. Here is what you do: If you have Windows XP on your computer and you only use it for regular surfing, email, etc. You don't need to switch to other systems. Plus, if you have Windows XP, chances are your computer is more than eight (8) years old and may not support Windows 7 or 8.1 as is. You will have to upgrade RAM memory, the processor or other hardware to get it to run Windows 7 or 8. Additionally, if you have thought about upgrading to a newer computer but you just need one or two more years, then just wait. VERY IMPORTANT: What you need to do, however is make sure you don't use Internet Explorer as your browser. Download Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome and install it. Make sure you have an current anti-virus program installed and make sure your computer is actually clean of viruses or any other malware. If you don't follow these directions, you are putting yourself at risk. On the other hand: You do need to move to Windows 7 or 8.1 if you do a lot of transactions online, such as banking, buying stuff online and checking secure accounts. If you do business online, you definitely need to upgrade. If you transfer secure information, you better upgrade. If you need to upgrade, we recommend you go with Windows 7 instead of Windows 8.1. Windows 8.1 can be a headache for you if you are used to Windows XP. Plus Windows 7 is more friendly anyways and easier to do. I hope this information helps you make a better educated decision on whether you need to change to a newer system or retain what you have. FBI Virus Keep and eye on the FBI virus (at least that's what we nicknamed it here at Computer Virus Solutions). Your computer might get locked completely and you won't be able to use it at all. It will give you a screen stating you have been doing illegal activities and you have been locked out of your computer. It is a ransomware or a malware that will ask you for $300 so they can unlock your computer. Don't pay them, they will lock again withing a few weeks and you will have to pay them again. Plus now, they have your credit card. Bring it to us and we will remove the virus for $45 out the door.
