Marshall Mermell and Marc Sabin have been invited to present and discuss how to fight harmful algal blooms at the Putnam County Health, Social, Educational and Environmental Committee meeting scheduled to begin at 6 pm on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 and will be held in Room 318 in the County Office Building at 40 Gleneida Avenue, Carmel, NY 10512. Harmful algal blooms are a major environmental problem New York in all 50 states. Red tides, blue-green algae, and cyanobacteria are examples of harmful algal blooms that can have severe impacts on human health, aquatic ecosystems, and the economy. Algal blooms can be toxic. Keep people and pets away from water that is green, scummy or smells bad.
