Mission District: Another joyous moment at a reopened shop four blocks from my apartment the Community Thrift Store, which now requires waiting to be one of t...he 15 customers admitted for a strict half-hour of browsing time. Admission also requires hand sanitizer use followed by donning of disposable gloves. Once inside, all purchases must be placed in a basket rather than carried around in sweaty palms. No clothing or accessories may be tried on. When they announce your time is up, they mean it: You have five minutes to make your purchases and scram. I often spend an hour or more poking around the shop's massive stock of used books, magazines and old paper so it felt like I was in a bizarre TV reality show: "Super Thrifters Death Race!" Needless to say, I'm an old hand at scouting, so I made a beeline for the most promising sections of the store, zeroed in on the items that looked the least commercial and most obsure, and made off with a dozen good finds for my book-dealing stock in 25 minutes flat.

Mission District: Delighted to be back at the Community Thrift Store, with proper health precautions in place. Even the title of a book on display is helping drive home the message (albeit with a touch of camp): "Purity and Danger."

My bathroom is sparking so much joy ever since I got (thrifted) this new (old) over-the-door towel rack.
