7 months ago we moved into vacant properties to safely shelter in place during this housing and public health crisis. Today, we legally moved into other state o...wned properties in the neighborhood! This is what happens when tenants take matters into their own hands The next phase of the struggle is to transition ownership of the occupied homes from Caltrans to the El Sereno Community Land Trust to keep the housing permanently affordable and under community control. This is a victory, but not the end of our struggle. There are still hundreds of vacant homes owned by Caltrans, while many more families struggle with homelessness. We hope that Caltrans will make more houses available for move ins, and ultimately transition ownership of the occupied homes to the Community Land Trust. We now have permanent housing for the first time in years. This was made possible by taking matters into our own hands and standing up for what is right, even if that was illegal. To other tenants everywhere: We can do this. We can win. #ReclaimLA See more
