Today is the 19th Sunday after Pentecost! Thank you for coming to see our message today. Our message comes from a Christian scripture in Matthew and from Psalm 23. In the scripture from Matthew, the king invites many to a wedding feast, but they didn’t come. He then used his power to try and mandate people do what he wanted. Our 4th president, James Madison, said that people in power can use it for bad or for good. We should be concerned about gaining too much power and usin...g it for our own benefits and not for the benefit of others. So how do we use our own power for good? How do we stay centered and maintain our good intentions? One way is to listen to the Spirit. Jesus says many are invited, but that many are not paying attention to that invitation. Today, let’s tune into the Spirit within us. The Holy One walks with us and protects us. Let’s remember that we can be a guiding light for others as well! Together, we will make a positive impact on the world and be there for one another. Amen!

We are so thankful to have been given a grant from the Lutheran Development Society of Sacramento! We are once again able to help out the West Sacramento Streets Team. This month, we once again got Whitey's burgers (and they generously threw in fries too!), and we were also able to get the team waterproof jackets for the upcoming winter!... We've also been able to share our Church as a safe meeting place, and for the most part, everyone ensured everyone was safe! Thank you Holy One for this opportunity!

Today is the 17th Sunday after Pentecost. Thank you for joining us today for this message! Our message today comes from a Cherokee perspective, and references the gospel of Matthew where Jesus spoke of having faith, and from a spiritual reading called Practice Being Happy For Others. When we are asked under what authority we can have faith, it’s because we are instilled that right by our maker. ... We all have a heartbeat instilled in us by the Holy One. Sometimes though, we can have envy and jealousy of others. When we are aware of those thoughts, we can interrupt them and practice the opposite of envy we can say, I am happy for you. We can practice what the Buddhists call, Sympathetic Joy. When we hold onto resentment and jealousy, it closes us in. We close ourselves off from the energy and the Spirit we are all capable of. We can practice thinking positively of others, and when we speak, it brings those thoughts to life. When we put out the negative, we feel it. When we put out the positive, we feel that too. We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give. Today we leave you with a The Cherokee word for joy is Oo-lee-hey-lee-sdee. So this week, let’s give positivity and instill this world with happiness and joy! Amen!

Welcome to Community Lutheran Church and thank you for joining us today! Today is the 16th Sunday After Pentecost in our church year. Our message comes from the Christian Gospel of Matthew of the parable of the vineyard and from a reading called The Times We’re Living In. Let’s imagine we’re in a different time. There’s no covid. We are free to mingle around. You are free to attend that concert and game that you’ve been wanting to attend too.... You do all the preparations to get ready, and you are so excited you show up early. You wait for hours near the front of the line and the line gets longer and longer. Soon you cannot see the end of the line. The ticket taker eventually comes to the stage and announces, We will begin taking tickets now! Starting at the end of the line, please hand your ticket to the ticket taker! How is that fair? You arrived early, put in extra effort, and those that didn’t spend any extra effort got in first! It can be tough to understand. The Divine often operates differently than we do. Some people dedicate their lives to spread the gospel. Others come in later. This week let’s be aware of our abilities and how much we can contribute to the world. Let’s change our perspective from being the time of me to the time of we. The Fall Equinox starts this coming Tuesday. It’s a time to share and be thankful of the bounty we’ve received. Sometimes it might seem that the world is a big pile of compost. It’s dirty and sometimes gross, but out of compost comes rich soil and new life. Let’s contribute to the bounty and let’s make this a wonderful world! Amen!
