As we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr's life and legacy today, remember that serving others is one of the best ways to remember our great civil rights leader. How can you help someone today?

Once you have a home in one of the 17 residences at Community Housing Partnership, the opportunities for success become limitless. By offering a stable living environment coupled with supportive services, our residents can achieve what was previously thought impossible. Congratulations go out to our Arnett Watson resident Juthaporn Chaloeicheep, who was nominated and accepted as a 2021 cohort member of Urban Habitat's Boards and Commissions Leadership Institute (BCLI). She joins former board members Orlon Ryel and Anakh Sul Rama as BCLI members from Community Housing Partnership. Shine bright Juthaporn!! http://ow.ly/a1j650D6Tat

As 2020 and our 30th anniversary year comes to a close, we want to offer a brief history on how we came to be and our proven method on ending homelessness, as told by Co-Founder Paul Boden.

As you bask in the glow of the holidays and anticipate the coming new year, don’t forget how critical your generosity is to those in need. Without you, our residents aren’t able to enjoy the holidays from the safety and security of a home like the rest of us. Won't you help provide hope and confidence to rebuild a life after living through the trauma of homelessness. https://give.chp-sf.org

This November we have a chance to support fair housing policies in San Francisco. COVID-19 has demonstrated the immense need that our City has for affordable housing as more and more San Franciscans are becoming housing insecure. The time is now to vote YES on Props A, F, I, K, and 15 and invest needed resources into the communities that need it most!

Community Housing Partnership 16.09.2020

Without Prop F, our elected officials will have no choice but to cut human services, leaving more people in need and creating more barriers to access.

I’m blessed because I’ve done a lot, I’ve seen a lot, I’ve experienced a lot of bad things, but I am still living through it. I woke up this morning, so I am doing something right in life. Growing up in New Orleans, Jerry Jones began playing the saxophone in third grade. His talent got him access into the prestigious New Orleans Center for Creative Arts for high school, where he mingled with classmates like Harry Connick Jr. After high school Jerry traveled the world as an ...emergency seaman, working on container and passenger ships, traveling to ports as far away as Tel Aviv. Wherever Jerry went, his saxophone went with him. An accomplished musician, he has performed with some of the biggest names in jazz like Herbie Lewis and Johnny Lee Hooker. Jerry has lived in San Francisco for over 33 years. Before experiencing homelessness, he was living with five roommates. When someone was short on the rent Jerry would always pitch in to help, but eventually the rent became unsustainable and he found himself without a permanent place to live. He would couch surf, or stay in a hotel, or sleep on the street. He would sleep with his saxophone strapped to his leg to keep it from being stolen. My saxophone was like an appendix, stuck to me, and his sax was there to help him as he struggled to find housing. By playing in BART and around town he sometimes made enough cash to get a room for a night. Life took a big turn when Jerry found supportive housing through Community Housing Partnership. In 2015 he made his home at the Rachel Townsend Apartments. I felt relief, happiness, everything all in one. It was a great moment to know you had a roof over your head. Before the pandemic, Jerry filled his days with music, playing jazz, blues and reggae in several bands around San Francisco. And he is also a prolific visual artist working in mixed media to create haunting abstract art that he would love to someday show in a gallery setting. For now, Jerry can’t wait to get back to playing live. Luckily, this year you can hear him performing at our 30th Birthday Bash celebrating three decades of changing lives. My music saved me more than anything." Hear Jerry perform at our 30th Birthday Bash, get your access now at https://give.chp-sf.org/ANWTStickets

Community Housing Partnership gave me the strength to move forward. It wasn’t an easy road but a lot of positive has come out of it. I am so grateful to be alive. Ariel Bowser may be young, but she has the poise and wisdom of someone who has seen many more years. Her positive attitude belies the challenges she has faced since birth when she became a foster child. Although she was later brought in by her Grandmother and then Aunt, she was forced to leave this unhealthy livin...g situation as a teen and found herself without a place to live. With the help of others, Ariel found a home at Community Housing Partnership in 2014, and today lives at the Fifth Street Apartments. It was a difficult transition at first, but she says it’s become a blessing and a stabilizing force for her, providing peace of mind and the support she needs to invest in her future. Ariel eats, breathes and thinks music. As a teen she was accepted and graduated from the prestigious Ruth Asawa High School for the Arts in San Francisco where she studied classic voice and also sang in the Masterworks Chorale. After graduation she turned her sites to contemporary music and began to seriously pursue a career in music while simultaneously taking classes at Skyline College. She took a break from school this past year when she started working with a well-known music producer creating music that she writes as well as performs. She just completed an album of original and classic Christmas songs that she recorded in LA and will be releasing soon. Ariel recently returned to Skyline College to finish her 2-year program with hopes to transfer to a 4-year university for a degree in Psychology. When comparing herself to her peers, she marvels that so many people her age are unprepared to take care of themselves after graduation. She feels like the adversity she experienced has contributed to her strength and self-sufficiency. Through all this Ariel continues to work at the SF credit union, but finds it hard to move on with no affordable housing in the Bay Area. Her ultimate goal is to give back to places like Community Housing Partnership and the people that need helpjust like the help she has been given.

We wholeheartedly support legislation that will be introduced today by Supervisor Haney that sets rent at no more than 30% of income for roughly 2,800 supportive housing units. #RightNow
