Collector's Book Store, Hollywood, California late 60s Leonard Brown and Malcolm WIllits created the best comic book store the world has ever known. When we opened that first Comics and Comix store Aug 1972 our goal striven for was this place.

Here I am age 19 in 1971 in my "comics room" of my parent's house holding my then just recently scored Noel Sickles Scorchy Smith 1935 daily I got for $50 from legendary collector comics historian Ernie McGee at the first Thanksgiving week end Creation in 1971 hosted by Adam Malin and Gary Berman. Same time I bought a 1915 George Herriman Baron Bean daily from Ernie for the same price. In the background of this pic used in a two page spread on my comics collecting run in the ...Sunday Omaha World Herald are originals by Al Williamson, Berni(e) Wrightson, others. Fond memories to be sure! A year and a half later from this pic John Barrett, Bud Plant and myself co-opened what became the first Comics & Comix Store #1 at 2512 Telegraph Ave back in Aug 1972. We were all of just 20 years old. There were wars fought back then regaining respect for the by then lowly comic book. Are we there yet? See more

I am rebuilding this homage page to Comics & Comix Store #1. Facebook asked me to "claim" the name which then in turn evidently destroyed all the previous posts. Most all my archive files of my life in comics 1966-1986 were destroyed in Best of Two Worlds warehouse flooding. If any one has any pics to share of the first few years of Comics and Comix this old dinosaur would be most grateful.
