Working late into the night making sure this store will be open Saturday morning at 7am
After much thought we (Lisa and Claudia) decided to donate many historic shelves, false walls, and fixtures to the building. These will be donated with the contingency that if anyone removes them from the building they revert back to us. We did this so we all can enjoy these hand built items for years to come. Hopefully the State will keep them in the building where they belong,......we'll see.
We are all moved out of the . We are so very sad to not be doing business at "The old fashioned store on the corner" anymore. We hope to see you all at Claud's Market located on Parrotts Ferry red right in between the elementary school and the post office.
We at the Columbia Mercantile did NOT want to close the doors permanently. We were planning on making the Mercantile a true Mercantile by offering hardware, fishing gear, and making customers wood signs for people as well as other non food related items. We were still planning on keeping snacks, candies and many of the food items we sold. As many of you know tourism is way down and the locals are not coming to the park like they have in the past. With the opening of the new s...tore (Clauds Market) the Merc would go out of business. The state prohibits us from selling many food items at the Merc (Hot foods, deli sandwiches ect) so we had to open a store where we could fully service our community. The State turned down our proposal to sell nonfood items at the Merc so we had to decide if we wanted to open our new business or stay at the park while not being able to change our products for sale. The superintendent in currently charge of the park does not seem to understand that business need to make money to survive. For us, the decision was to move our business out of the park where we will be able to have a real grocery store and serve our community the way we all deserve. We will carry most if not all of the items we had at the Merc, as well as the staples of our everyday diet. There is more to it than this, but these are the reasons we are leaving in a nutshell. I am sorry to report to all Columbia Mercantile faithful customers that the Mercantile will close it's doors for good on December 28th at 5:30pm. The good news is that shortly after, we will be opening Claud's Columbia Market on Parrotts Ferry rd Columbia, just a few short blocks away. Thank You to all our customers who supported us, we hope to see you at the new store.
